Ohio has a problem with the persons who run the kitchen. They can have too many inmates on kitchen jobs, and they get paid better. The kitchen inmates walk off with meat and bread most of the time that they sell in the pods. The kitchen inmates short the trays on meat so they can sell it. I don't know if all the prisons run the same way, but the one I do know--has no accountability in the operation of the kitchen.
I hope that hiring a private contractor will be a well thought out process with stringent guidelines on the service, and ways to check they follow the rules and guidelines. We don't want the food contract to go to money hungry incompetents like the one Ohio let have Lake Erie Correctional. They cleaned up some of their act, but the criminals still run the place. It is very dangerous for inmates that just want to serve their time. So much theft, extortion, etc still unchecked.
