I have worked at Mills Pride for over 10 years, and since Masco bought the plant they have totally ran the once thriving buisiness into the ground.I have a hard time believing anyone will buy the plant, and even if the do they are not going to be able to keep all the employees off the bat.

Mills Pride was their competition. That is why they bought it. They are closing it because their other company sells high end cabinets. They will sell it, but it will not be allowed to compete in the cabinet industry. I doubt if they hire the locals back. The city just needs the 1 percent income.

I could care less about what the city needs.I more worried about putting food on the table and a roof over my family.

I was told that there was two offers for the plant but due to them being from competitors Masco turned them down flat. I hate the thought of them playing God with our lives because they cannot handle a little competition. I was told from a credible source that the employees last day was June 30. I hope and pray that on this they are wrong but I am not holding my breathe.

Yeash, its a shame that a once proud company that was several times the Home Depot Vendor of the year will be in business no more. Masco only bought this company because it was competition. They took manufacturing ideas from our plant and founder Malcomn Healey, to use at their other facilities, ran the company long enough to cover their purchase of it, and now they are shutting it down. That was plan from day one, in my opinion. They will not sell to a competitor, they could have by now as there has been at least two offers, or so I've heard from reliable sources. But either they don't want our product on Home Depot and Lowes shelves next to theirs, stealing any sells, or they will market a forgien product that will cost them less, to replace our product. It's a shame, I know the workers there are proud of the job they have done. They are a hard working job force, that takes pride in a USA made product, and the job they do. I know Gov't, Pike County. and Waverly officials are hopeful and trying to be enthusiastic about a possible buyer, but like I said, there has been solid offers for the company, and Masco wouldn't sell. This is what Masco does. Buy the competition, recoup money invested, and shut them down....sad times in America.

More to add from me. If like me you are a MP employee, I'm sure your upset, worried about another job, ect. But its also time to get agressive, and take as much action as we possibly can. Without our voices, the plant will close as has been said. Write, email, phone, whatever, your Gov't officials. City counsels, County officials, state Gov't, Ted Strickland, your Congressmen and women. If Masco does not want this business, there should be a way around against not selling to a competitor. (Masco says the closing is to concentrate their efforts on their premium line of cabinets but at the same time say will not sell to anyone who keep our product in Home Depot and Lowes stores.),This type of business is killing the American worker, the American economy, and our national pride. Masco's policies of buy the competition and close them up makes me sick. IF they don't want our product, then Gov't should step in and let another business have the opportunity to market it to whoever and however they want. If it sets at Home Depot next to Masco's Cabinets, that should fine, that's what made American business great. Let the Gov't know your upset about this kind of business dealings. We are the American public. It's us, our sons and daughters that are fighting in Iraq, it's us that put these Gov't officials in office. Hold them accountable, let them know that your opinions and ideas count. Maybe if we are just LOUD enough, we will get heard.

I work in the Lincoln building and we are working tomorrow as well. However, the Jackson building has a mandatory meeting tomorrow and all their people are required to attend. So lets hope it is a good meeting not a bad one like our last meeting!!

What paint fumes? lol Once you have been in there a while you do not even notice that it smells any different than the rest of the plant. The heat is worse than the fumes. To be honest the vinyl room/ press and the paint room has got to be the two hottest places there. In the winter time it is nice b/c it is never colder than 90 degrees lol. Summer sucks though.

Masco should tell us something so the employees can try to plan and go on with the rest of our lives and put Mills pride in the past. we aren't getting hours but can't sign up for school because we don't have a clue what the future holds. Masco should have a little bit of compassion for the employees they're who runs the plant if it wasn't for the laborers they wouldn't get their product out the door and the laborers are the least paid.Masco please have some repect for the employees who have been loyal to the company please tell us something.
