I'd love to be able to make it drop some more, by finding a job myself. Been out of work since January.

The unemployment rate, without more information, inadequately reflects the job market because two variables can move the number in the same direction even though they paint very different pictures: people going back to work and people giving up hope of finding work.

The Dispatch should refrain from publishing the unemployment rate without also indicating some other metric that shows how many jobs were actually created or lost in the past month. Otherwise, what help is this statistic?

Much of this unfortunately is attributed to the unemployed simply "giving up" because no jobs are available.

Where do these numbers come from? Are we taking into account all the unemployed people who lost unemployment benefits and can no longer file. What happened to the additional 13 weeks?

Yeah...because it's ALL Obama that's going to create these MILLIONS of new jobs for us.... get a life. I'm sure you're one of the many idiots who blamed EVERYTHING on Bush.(Which I find really funny b/c you probably also assumed that Bush was an idiot and yet; he could come up with a plan to destroy this country and cause the GREAT RECESSION so that he can go down as the worst president of the U.S.A!!!!!!!) BTW- which party was the majority in Congress during 2007/2008/2009- the time period when this country started to slip and fall.... hmmmm...

I agree, The State of Ohio unemployment number are understated, they are not true. I met many standing in line at the job fair that are not registered as being unemployed, there are some whose unemployment has ran out. Stop using guessed figures!

Unfortunately we had our eye on Iraq under Bush (I must admit I was for it for a while) pumping in trillions of dollars in military support and aid, and unfortunately youthful american deaths insuring that we build a safe democratic Iraq and eliminate the threat (even though Iran and N Korea were much farther down the line in being a threat but hey they did not try and assasinate daddy bush). So while we invested all of our resources in strangers overseas who denounced us and wanted us out of their country and we expecting nothing in return we took our eye off the ball on our own welfare. What is ironic is the party I once supported is so compasionate for strangers that price tags didnt matter nor was it ever questioned at town hall meetings or by the teabag party but when it comes to their own country and their own American citizens and health and unemployment benefits well damn it they are lazy fools and even though we rank 39 in the world in best healthcare we are the best damn it because we spend the most. Crazy isn't it. I guess I just became too smart for the repub party and their support of Palin. My God what happened to the repub party? Crying shame.

I know what happened to the repubs. They are too busy cheating on their spouses and using tax payer funds to do it taking lavish trips and gifts to their Monica's. But hey stealing tax payer money is not nearly as bad as lying to a grand jury for crying out loud because no one ever lies in court. Funny how the clock turns.

Exactly. Everyone who knows anything knows that you can lie with statistics. Sept. is probably when a lot of unemployment ran out and lots of folks dropped out of the job market (i.e. are not counted if they are discouraged and not looking for work).

Folks, your government lies to you and the media is helping them out.

because an informal poll at a job fair line is much more scientific and accurate.

I think what you are saying...historcially when the US was at war the war generated revnue. The items needed to fight war was manufactured in the US, an example submarines were made in Conn. Now most of those manufactures are gone or have moved oversees, because of their cheap labor, the only gain was in the pockets of the manufactures leadership pockets such as Haliberten (Chaney). No income, no revenue, no businesses, no tax dollars, no jobs..

If you think Obama creates jobs you are a bigger fool than your post would otherwise suggest. Government does not create jobs or wealth. Private industry does. Government jobs are supported by taxes (legalized stealing) from the productive masses. The sooner you realize this the less enthusiastic you will be for any political party or figure.

No not scientific, sometimes visuals make more of a statement, and conversation is good
