Several Famous African-American Musicians Hail From Ohio | WBNS...

Full story: 10TV WBNS

The Buckeye State has produced its fair share of African-American entertainment stars, including a funk band that loves "fire" and a torch singer with roots in the capital city, 10TV's Jerry Revish reported Friday.

I'm so proud of the achecivement of are black people . But let's us be honest about it all because they really don't care where they come from because you never here about any of them doing a free concert for their City. You never even hear them mention their State or City where they come From And yes I'm black very black. And I can't stand how they treat their so-called City where they say they come from either. And yes this don't exclude the white singers . It all about them and nobody else including there Family trust on this just do your research on this Fact. Ps from RAW n Col , oh

A few comments-
You missed a lot of important musicians- Sweets Edison, Roland Kirk, Don Patterson, Wes Montgomery- real artists who got their start in Columbus that most people have never heard of.
Nancy Wilson actually did a concert in and for the people of Columbus in 1971. I know, because I played guitar on it.
Probably the most important point is that they're all FROM Columbus- they obviously had the smarts to figure out that if they were ever going to make it, they had to get out of Columbus. I know this for a fact. I grew up there playing music, and left in order to actually have a successful career in music in the real world.

I really enjoyed this media coverage. White, black, variety of all,... most Ohioans would appreciate to know who's had roots or started back in our ol' State. Color, race, religion or region doesn't matter to me. Or likely to anyone I know. I appreciate your coverage on this. I hope you also have show-pieces of other nationalities as well. If only to educate and promote our own beautiful State of Ohio. Yes, even celebrities spawn from our great State.(smiles)

Great Story!
Love it!

I went to high school with Nancy Wilson's nieces. They were very good singers also. I have lost track of them over the years and don't know if they took it to a professional level. They use to win our talent shows.

What a nice story, to bad they did not have enough time to include more African American, Black, or negro (as stated in the 50's and 60's) artist. The music made a great impact to all America. How can some of you be so mean and negative, I'm sure there is a song title for your mean spirit.....Who let the dogs out!

February is a time set aside to share Black History with all. Thank you Jerry for sharing. It is a crying shame that some of you don't even want blacks to have a minute of history, let alone a month, especially since we have a Black man in the White House. Get off it! You celebrate everyday, every time we are overlooked because of the color of our skin. You celebrate daily, get over it, most of the things you use today were invented by Blacks! Next time you turn on a light in your house think about it!
