The walls of Jay Salpeter's second-floor office in Great Neck hold images of his beloved Jets and Mets, as well as what he could regard the hard-earned trophies of his trade as a sleuth-for-hire. There with the ...

PeteF,

I think that giving a guy a bogus disability ( 3/4 )
tax free pension for life, before arresting him for several burglaries was very generous. I hurt my wrist many times on the job, took Aleve. He will be a commercial painter and make even more money than SCPD. I think you must have been a helluva detective. ALL of the McCready brothers are garbage, so what's new?

If Tankleff is innocent the main reason for his conviction is his former attorney Robert Gottlieb. His main interest back then was becoming DA and he used this case to launch an attempt to get elected. He tried to portray himself as an experienced lawyer when he took on the defense of Tankleff and his failure in the courtroom was evident. IF their was a miscarriage of justice he shares responsibility.
II have to agree with you most reverently. I was deeply involved in the case and have been saying this all along. In my testimony I was not given the opportunity to say much that would have helped because Mr. Gottlieb was not interested. I tried on several occasions to share information crucial to the investigation and was dismissed and I began to wonder if he was with the prosecution! This became apparent with nearly all involved, very discouraging and it has severely damaged my faith in the system, not to mention ruin a mans life. Fortunately not entirely. But as we speak, right now they are reinvestigating the reinvestigation by the Governors orders. So be prepared...

Alas, I think Salpeter saved a young man's life, how he did it makes no difference.

We are going through the same pain as the Tankleff family. A loved one accused of something he never did do, nor had intentions of doing.
They are holding him in lockdown for 2 months now and still no indictment. But they can and will lie to the grand jury to get it.
Even in America, you are not innocent until proven otherwise.
The detectives on both ends of the case have told
the family, they don't think he was the shooter, but still refuse to release him, for saving face.
The prosecutor's office was handed evidence that could free this young man, and they have chosen to ingore it. They will never look further. They don't care since this is a very high profile case.
They have admitted they have only circumstantial evidence and forgot to check several facts before the arrest.

Lemmert said Harris was tormented by his dark secret, which so disturbed him for 15 years that he could barely sleep. "He was a mess," Lemmert said.

The chaplain, who said he had permission from Harris to talk about their conversations, added that he helped Harris decide to testify in the hearing taking place now.

Harris has maintained during the past 17 months in interviews with defense and prosecution investigators, in dozens of letters and in an affidavit that Joseph Creedon and Peter Kent were the other men in the car. Creedon and Kent have denied that.

Defense attorneys for Tankleff have said those men committed the murders for Jerry Steuerman, a bagel shop operator who owed Seymour Tankleff hundreds of thousands of dollars. Steuerman has declined to comment, but during Tankleff's 1990 trial he denied committing the murders.

Harris' refusal to testify Monday could sap the Tankleff defense team's momentum.

Now incarcerated in the Suffolk County jail on a parole violation for a burglary conviction, Harris was to be the main witness for Tankleff. He said he was there at the time of the murders and even saw the alleged murder weapon - a pipe - discarded after the predawn killings.

But in recent days he has been reluctant to testify without being granted immunity from prosecution. He also has been receiving threats from inmates at the jail, said Tankleff's attorney, Bruce Barket of Garden City.

"Mr. Harris has a conscience," said Barket, adding that he believes Harris will testify eventually. "I think his conscience and the fact that he really wants to help an innocent man will overcome the advice he's getting from an attorney he hardly knows."

TIRED of thinking how sad this all is!.

Tom Spota corrupt, there was plenty of anti semitism at that trial. Mcready should be locked up, he framed Marty all the way, a blind jury could see that. Suffolk is corrupt and anti semitic, it screams it !!!!!
