People don't know their history. Koch probably should have landed in jail during his third term. So much corruption. Dinkins beat him easily.

As a mayor Dinkins was nothing but a sweating nebbish. Presided over skyrocketing crime in NYC. The only time he sweated more then in front of the news media and at Gracie Mansion was when he was playing tennis. Which was often. Obama like him in many ways, except he doesn't sweat much in front of the camera or on the golf course, which is often too.

NYC under the likes of Koch and Dinkins was a sinkhole, a dirty pimp and porn down with junkies running everywhere. Sick.

I'm no Giuliani fan, but he and Bloomberg have really turned the place around to where you can go there and enjoy it as a tourist, and tolerate life there as a resident. Can't imagine anyone wanting those bad days back.

No doubt Ed koch was one of the most corrupt mayors NYC Ever had. he sold our city out to his real estate mafia buddies that he never had the balls to stand up against. but worked with them instead to in in cage in economic treason against his own america citizens in NYC and used the struggling class as a diversionary tactic to cover up his treason act of greed and corruption. we'll it was o.k for him to live in a rent cheap rent control apt in the village a cross from washington sq. park. well the rest of the city was under attack due to birth of corruptifercation to push out communities of culture.

Good riddance koch he died of 88 the code word for hitler youth but only this time a capo youth.. guest he'll be joining hitler in hell. Just like mr 911 foolinani who pushed out the old mob and put in the new mob and doom burg his cover up clean up boy . can't get more corrupt than that.

And the corrupt idiots live on see mr. 911

LOVED Mayor Koch for keeping it real. He would have protected NY children from the union funding thugs who run as Democrats in NY these days. He would have never tolerated the extortion and generational theft which is Pension Spiking. We all cared more about our own children's best interests in the Koch era. Koch reminds us of a time when we were much better parents and citizens.

Sorry, I have to disagree with you on this one. I lived in the city while Koch was Mayor - and he did nothing to contribute to the well being of many New Yorkers. Gulianni cleaned up the city, but did so like a Nazi - literally taking the homeless off the streets, and shipping them to housing centers on Long Island - limited space in the city, and to date, since the city has no sober living facilities, they still round the ones they find daily, and again, ship them to Long Island, in various locations.

There are literally police on virtually every corner - I don't go there unless business or a play require me to. Cameras on every block, watching every step you make - and it's quite sad that people become accustomed to living like this. Now, Bloomberg also want's to place cameras on major roads, regulating speed, and issuing tickets / the city made over 120 million dollars last year just on cameras placed at stop lights alone! Regulating soda's, taxing smokers to the tune of $14.00 a pack! And, Bloomberg violated the election by having the 2 term limit overridden, and spent over 50 million of his own to run a third term.

I won't miss Koch / definitely don't miss the cross dressing Gulianni, and can't wait till Bloomberg is gone.

I never realized it til now. God sent Ed Koch as a Moses to us in the seventies.

I was there. It was the darkest time I ever knew in New York. Really scary. Big crime wave. Blacks were walking up to random white men and shooting them in the face just because they were white. Muggings like crazy on the subway. Trains smothered in graffiti. Out of control and very dark days. We were all thinking we had better get a gun if we wanted to live. Then all of a sudden came Bernie Goetz and it stopped. Right after that came Ed Koch.

I will miss him, and I Praise and Thank God for him.

His funeral was perfect.
