It is sad to see this operation go out of business. Since it just recently changed hands, perhaps the buyer did not realize that it wasn't a gold mine, just a good business if you worked hard and kept the customers happy.
There is a lot of competition out there, from the big box stores with their prefab cabinetry to a lot of online dealers who sell some pretty impressive stuff that is made in China and ready to assemble. For the employees who have lost their jobs, let me suggest that there is a need for people to professionally install the ready made cabinets and not turn their noses up because they can't make a killing in the process. In fact there is also a need for electricians who do small jobs for reasonable rates and don't treat customers like an annoyance. Most people put off minor home improvements because of the horror show contractors have become both in price gouging and in simply showing up on time, and completing the job as agreed. Can you tell I have been burned? What we need in the Berkshires is pride and excellence in the building crafts, and right now it is in short supply. Let's hope someone wakes up and discovers the huge pent up demand that awaits those who do a good job at a fair price. |

Wow, I work for this company, But have been on layoff the last 2 months because of a slow down i heard. This is the first time That I have heard this, and I have to read it in an out of state news paper. I know from the years i've worked there that things slow down in the fall and winter, but this is even a surprise to me a near 14 year employee.

That really sucks , I live about 1,000 yds west of Millbrook Kitchens . This area does not need a business , no matter how small to close at this point in time . Perhaps , someone can step up and take over this company .

This is what happens when you tax people to death & enforce healthcare & pay it forward in bailouts, and print new money daily.
NY Times says we have 17% unemployment. I suppose this happened due to poor management by Millbrook? But you guys just want to tell people where to buy a new kitchen? Tragic! http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/07/business/ec... |

Isn't that the old Shedd? I just found out that as Shedd they installed heating ducts that weren't code and now I have to have them redone. Not great workmanship. |

It is disgusting to read all the cheap efforts to promote their own businesses here. Talk about greed and shallowness. I wouldn't hire any of the louts dancing on the grave of a failed company.

I have to wonder, given the recent take-over, if this wasn't just a way to gain a tax write-off. the behavior of this management is awful, to say the least!
so sad after what the family did to pull this company back from the devistating fire in '94. and so sad for those who have lost jobs and weren't even given the curtesy of a word from the company. and also sad for the people living without kitchens and waiting for the cabinets that are not coming. just have to wonder about the motivation for the purchase. no company out there would buy in this economy without a good look at the way the business was doing, one way or the other. smells fishy to me! |

Quality Kitchen & Bath on Tyler street is NOT the old Shedd heating and plumbing. Owned by the Larkin family for over 20 years. |
