Statins- The ultimate biological weapon. Why? Because they destroy a persons cells from the inside out without damaging physical property or the environment.

Have any of you complaining about low/no energy, muscle pain, weakness, memory loss, etc tight abut changing your diet and regularly exercising? No pill is a cureall for an unhealthy lifestyle. I've made that change from bring in 6 medications from diabetes to blood pressure and cholesterol and now take ZERO meds because I now eat healthy and exercise daily. Instead of blaming drug companies and doctors, we should look in the mirror!

I have developed a horrible cough since starting Lipitor. I cough for no apparent reason. I just get this command to cough and I do. It is low in the throat and seems unstopable. It is not like any cough I have ever had. My mucas in my mouth does seems thicker than usual. But I cannot pin point why I cough other than the Lipitor and the timing of starting this drug.
I have the same Symptoms. In addition, I have developed Cold sores in my mouth. I am going to quit taking Lipitor for good.

I've been on about 4 different prescription meds for bad cholesterol - high triglycerides and had serious side effects with all. The latest one prescribed is Livalo - 2mg every other day. I was prescribed this med a few months ago but still haven't taken it as yet. I've learned that this drug can cause vision problems and I don't need anything compromising my vision since I have Astigmatism in both eyes, the beginning of Macular Degeneration and the preformation of cataracts. I've done some research on Cholesterol and it seems some diet changes are in order. I generally eat healthy, but I think I'm one of those people who need to give up sugars and grains. Sugar can raise your triglycerides. I do have Hypothyroidism, which could be another reason. My GP put me on a generic drug for this condition, but I wasn't feeling as well as I should. I switched to the pharmaceutical grade and it has helped. I am feeling better on this drug. I've also read that oat straw can be very beneficial in reducing bad triglycerides. Someone recently told me they tried an herb formula with oat straw in it an his overall cholesterol came down significantly within a year. I can't remember the name of the product though. Does anyone know what it could be? Thank you.

Reading this threat further, my husband is suffering from all the symptoms you all describe from using Lipitor. He's been complaining about extreme tiredness for a few years, leg tingling and weakness, etc. Sent to a neurologist, it was diagnosed as a B12 deficiency so severe that he had absolutely no B12 in his system, which I still question if this is possible or not. Supplements did not work and I give him monthly injections. He also has had some vertigo but I don't know if this is related or not. He has frequent blood draws for his anticoagulant level but I am not aware of any doctor ever checking his liver function, which has worried me for a while now. I've seen him as a basket case for awhile. I don't understand how he works. The lack of energy, and resultant inactivity can't be helping his weight or his heart!
My father is experiencing the same symptoms. He also takes B-12 shots. I do not think his doctor was monitoring him because we brought him to the hospital and found out he was in kidney failure. Just curious, did your husband stop taking Lipitor?

The war of medicine confines persons of the best health to the rules of medicinal profits.

The person was non conforming to the instruction of any doctor to take a Statin drug (any drug) and the posting in the electronic records will damage your theories of good health forever.

Is there a place to file to get in a class action suit for Lipitor? Or do you have to go thru a lawyer?

I took a small dose of Lipitor (10 mg) for 2 days. About an hour after the first dose, I started feeling achy. day 2 dose - stayed in bed - thought I had the flu - body aches, felt like I couldn't get out of bed. day 3 - hands and feet swelled, ached - did not take med - went to ER per advice of my physician. Said I was having an allergic reaction, took blood test - said all was OK - take some Benedryl. ER Nurse said alot of people in with bad Lipitor reactions. Two weeks after stopping meds, broke out in itchy rash all over legs which lasted a week. It's been over a month now and hands and feet are still puffy. My eyes are swollen and I have bags under them and I have a measle-looking rash over hands/arms but is not itchy. I think these are left-over side effects. For only 2 doses of a pill, these seems extreme. I have sensitive skin but this is ridiculous. How long can I expect these side effects to linger?

Cindy, I started having bad reactions after one or two doses, but wound up taking it for a total of twelve days because, like you, I thought it was something else. I wound up nearly unable to walk, unable to climb stairs, and in an ambulance to the ER. Multiple times. That was in November 2011. I STILL have problems with balance/equilibrium, use a walker for distances and places with nothing to latch onto while using my cane, and tire easily. The cyst that appeared in my spine is still there, causing pain when standing for more than 5-10 minutes, the cyst in my knee is still there, and the 14-cm. one in my abdomen had to be surgically removed. My ankles swell and ache. My out-of-pocket medical expenses so far are about $10,000.

I don't want to bring you down, but sometimes it's a long siege. I talked to an attorney, and he wouldn't take the case, saying he "couldn't PROVE it was the Lipitor". I have had zero doctors say it could be an allergic reaction, but almost every nurse or physical therapist I've spoken to has said, "Oh, yeah, see this alllll the time..."

I've found that limiting salt intake helps the swelling (if the sodium-per-serving is higher than the calories-per-serving, consider it a high-sodium food).

Good luck! Keep up the good fight.

Hi everyone ive been on lipator for 5-10 yrs. kind of forgot. Well about 6 mo. ago right achelles tendon started to hurt (i was walking 1 mile every day but going further and faster)then endended up with it torn. So i rest it got pt for couple mos no real change then i exercise on sit down bike like device called cardio glide and hurt/tear muscle in low ab then so i stopped and soon it gets worse amd i could hardly put any weight on right foot cause it hurt ab area so bad. The weakness in ab area spread to the whole low ab area and remains as does torn tendon pain. Both a bit better but just a week ago left leg muscle in rear of leg got tight and hurts and i did nothing that would cause this and now also left achelles tendon is throbbing. Im 62 very strong was a long time athlete worked hard ran etc never injured or tore anything now i just found info on statins. I knew something wasnt right but didnt have a clue. Thanks everyone take care

It is not the science, because you will be hard pressed to find any paper which states that there is a clear repeatable cause and effect connection between high LDL and heart attack. In fact the patient information that comes with the lipitor pill will state that there is no connection. So its not science its politics, and at worst religion. Patients finally got Vioxx pulled when they started winning law suits... Same thing will happen here.
