i made this topic because i am 34 years old, and the other day i had to buy a cheap bic lighter, and i got carded for it. i dont usually get annoyed when carded for goin into bars or to pick up cigarettes for my mother, but i was, for some reason, furious. now you have to be a certain age to buy a lighter as well?! what is this country coming to. anyone else have this happen to them also?

Had the same thing happen at Target on Sunday. I asked the cashier if I didn't appear to be at least 18 (I'm pushing 60). She told me that Target now requires an identification for the purchase of lighters and medicine! She scanned the bar code on my driver's license - guess the police will be knocking on my door after the next fire in the town where I live because I bought two (omg) packages of lighters. I don't understand the reason, especially for medicine.

It just happened to me today. I have been buying lighters since i was 11 with 0 problems..until now. I live in Newmarket Ontario , Canada. I made the 30 minute walk to giant tiger specifically to buy a lighter when my butane lighter ran out of fluid. I was asked for I.D. and I replied "you need to be 18 to buy a lighter??? The cashier said yes, and refused to sell me one unless i had ID. I'm 21 years old.....i havent been this pissed of in a long time. So i ended up walking for over an hour and spending double to finally get a bic at the convenience store ( who also asked for ID !!). When i left giant tiger i was so angry i slammed their automated exit door so hard I broke it. Next time I'm asking for the manager so i can throw a fit in the store. I'm 21 years old and i need to lug around my wallet in order to buy a fucking lighter ? seriously....

WOW! I don't feel so bad now. this just happened to me so I searched 'carded for a lighter' at Google and this site came up. I'm 24 and have a full beard. I dress nice and pulled up in a nice car. I cursed all the way out I was so angry. I feel like I turned into the underage kid they made me feel like and I talked like one from it lol.

What kind of crap is this? Most hotels, resturants, ect. have matches laying out free to the public. Seriously stupid stuff....

Make sure they do not scan your i.d.
Perhaps they did. Why? Who would be interested in your habits? Insurance companies have been chomping at the bit to raise rates. Lotto, booze, butts, and yes, anything butt related. Show your i.d. but grab it if they try scanning it.

I once got carded trying to buy a can of spray paint in Cook County IL (i.e., Chicago).

Apparently kids can't buy spray paint there.

You people think you have crazy stories? I asked a woman of the night if she'd stimulate my Prostate while slurping on my cum cannon. She didn't ask me if I was a cop, she carded me. If she had been a teacher or Catholic priest, my age might not have been an issue. Who'd a thunk it, a prostitute with morals. I tipped her an extra five bucks.

I work at a 7-11 gas station. I HAVE to ask for ID for lighters. I feel very very bad when I ask. Most people who just want to buy a lighter don't carry ID. They get upset and I tell them, "I'm sorry but it's not my law that I made up, I'm only doing my job and I can lose my job if I get a secret shopper associated with the alcohol and tobacco whatever association."

We all know that this country is going downhill, so just carry your stupid ID if you want to buy a lighter or just buy it from a grocery store when they don't card for lighters. Either that or steal one or buy them from amazon dot com.

jeff - ask for id. if you scan the id number, YOU are part of the problem.
simply look at the date. scan nothing!!! it is part of the beginning of the end. do not help.

Ask the cashier for THEIR ID, make sure they are over the age to if they are gonna sell it to you. Tell them to swipe their ID along with yours.
They want to ID you for aerosol dust cleaners for your computer too.

Guess what, this one doesnt fall on Liberals - this was a NeoCon Reich Wing HOmeland Security thing.
Everyone wants to cry saying Obama is making this country socialist - yet who stepped up when BushCorp stole some of your civil liberties in the name of patriotism and protection after 9/11? Obviously you didnt. Liberals warned of your freedoms being stepped on and the Kuntservative sheep listened to Rush Limpballs, Hannity, Dumbsfeld, Dumbya Bush, Asscroft, COulter and their ilk instead and waved flags.

Can't sell BIC lighters? Yeah we might use them for shoebombs. Ask them to show you the state law or store policy in writing that says they have to scan your ID barcode. They dont for alcohol, they just punch in your DOB.

these are not laws. they are company policies.
company policies aint the g-damm law. and don't even allow them to punch in your dob.
it's a slippery slope. we aint gonna win this folks, but make it a challenge for them.
leave as few footprints as possible (maybe quitting this blog crud would be a good start).

You guys are dumb. Ask for MY id when I'm the one who works there and can refuse YOU service?? Just bring your stupid ID, or buy some bics on amazon dot com. You can get 50 of them for about 40 bucks, and you don't have to be 18.

Yes, I'm the most liberal person in the world. I think marijuana should be legalized and that abortion should be legal and that women should have the choice. BUT...store policies are store policies and I'm just doing my job. I don't like having to ask people for ID for a stupid lighter! Half the people who buy black and milds buy them to roll their weed inside of.

Yes, us liberals were telling you cuntservatives all along that all your rights will be stripped away and we were absolutely correct.
