When the LIRR and Metro North were combined, the MTA said the elimination of thousands of redundant jobs would save the taxpayers tens of millions of dollars. The MTA never cut their bloated staff and has, in fact, added thousands of jobs. The first step for Gov. Patterson is to force the MTA to cut the thousands of jobs they promised before the merger, then find other efficiencies that will allow further manpower reductions.

The Bush administration has revived the prospects for at least one industry, Buggy Whips ! I understand carriage horses are also surging in value now, as are homes with a barn or stable attached.
I'm gonna rush out and invest in Buggy Whips, and Bicycles, they're the new Growth Industries, selling my FORD & GM stock before they crash !

So when the MTA has a surplus it's bonuses and raises for everyone, but when they have a deficit it's rate increases for the public. Sounds fair. Criminals.

Huh??

LIRR and MNR were never merged.

That idea was proposed back in the Pataki regime by Kalikow and Katy Lapp. It was left to quietly wither when they realized they didn't have the stones to take on the entrenched interests and unions involved to actually make it happen.

Eliminate ALL fare freebies.

Do away with the so called "punch days" (extra OT for all ticket takers). Never seen a counterfiet montlhy yet.(the whole reason supposedly for the "punch days".)

Eliminate all manned ticket counters except for Penn, Flatbush & Jamaica.

It may not be much but it's a start!

The MTA'slong-term plan is to bleed every rider dry, and then kill them.

Thank you very much, goodnight, you're on your own..........

The LIRR needs to get out from under the pension liability rock it where it finds itself, immediately renegotiate all existing union contracts, and start major work force reductions.

It's time for LIRR to take the railroad back on behalf of the ridership or let someone with enough foresight and cahonnes buy the system and create a for profit operation.

I'm told they just began making a harness to pull your Lincoln Navigator along with a pair of clydedales. Just pull the motor, transmission, rear differential, add a hay rack, and put the bin for oats under the hood. they call this the BUSH Dinosaur Conversion. welcome to the future. Just remember to buy a new, top quality Burke Buggy Whip ! That's my own personal 'silver lining' to the Bush Depression. We're goin' Back To the Future, with the BUSHies !

Wrong Again !

It'll take the next ten administrations to clean up the mistakes, blunders, and dilution of the U.S. Constitution began by Clueless George and all you members of the Clueless Voters Coalition who elected him. I'll be reminding you of all he/YOU did to wreck the military, the economy, our international relations, our environment, the justice department, the homebuilding industry, the value of the dollar, the value of your retirement investments, the education system, and on, and on, and on.

But at least you get to experience $ 5.00 Gasoline for yourself.

Enjoy !
