I live in Rockaway and it was surreal to watch this all unfold with half a dozen heliocopters in the sky and the many boats, Skeedoos, and divers in the water. I must stay the Police, Fire, and Coast Guard did its best.

Now we pray for the return of this poor girl to her family.

This is a tragedy. Unfortunately, most people do not understand the dangers of the ocean. They also do not understand how to handle themselves. It usually happens to someone who did not grow up near the water. We who grew up in the Rockaways have been taught at an early age to respect the ocean's power and unpredictablity. It has been years since a local resident drowned. Better education and preparedness could prevent these tragedies from occurring in the future.

Why don't you complain about the writer who spelt these things wrong in the article, that is way more offensive. Of course we all feel sorrow for the child.

I send all my condolences to Tiara's family. I pray for Tiara and her family everyday. She was such a great friend of mine. Someone who always made me laugh and smile. Such a beautiful, talented, intelligent, amazing girl. I would do anything to have her here with me right now. Words can not even express how much this hurts me. I miss you already babe. You will never be forgotten. I love you. God Bless Tiara and her family. Rest in Peace Tiara....

We don't need any ghetto teens from Rockaway here. I feel much safer anyway with this B kid dead.
Hilda.......I hope you aren't listed in the phone book or anyplace else where someone could find your address or identity. Some of those 'ghetto kidz' could act up in their grief over losing a family member.
