Are they serious?? So, I should be entitled to a pension from any client I served as a vendor? They're now trying to legitimize their greed by going on the offensive and trying to make this a public debate over the reasonableness of their position? All public officials should be put on warning thyat if they buy into this lobbying beffort, they will receive the brunt of voter backlash. Enough is enough.

Does it? Is this statement the truth anymore? There used to be a tradeoff. A public sector job paid less, but worked less hard, had more job security, and offered a pension.
Today public sector jobs still doesn't work as had, still has more job security, still has a pension, in fact, multiple pensions and pensions while you work other jobs. But the most important thing is that the public sector jobs pay as much or more than private sector jobs now.
And there are more of them! Anyone know who the largest employers on Long Island are? Clue; they are not private companies anymore. These governments have gotten so big, and their management is so lacking that their enormous cost threatens the sustainability of the entire region. Wake up Long Island, this is the last opportunity we are going to have to preserve our homes.

It is time to change this policy. New York and Long Island are in bad shape money wise.
People can't afford to pay the taxes. Some of the taxes pay for the schools and pensions of teachers and other gov. officals. This has to change. People are moving out ( Look at the numbers). Change , Change

The lawyers will take the state to court and sue. The state will make a half-hearted attempt to defend their case and lose. Why? because this issue goes beyond the school districts. This a patronage perk, used by politicians, throughout the state, just like the water district patronage jobs. Part time employment has been used for cronies to receive medical benefits and pensions for decades. Newsday, their pulling the wool over your eyes.

These greedy SOBs have some set, I'll give 'em that. Hack lawyers supporting hack superintendents who award the hacks contracts for little work. Then the hack lawyers will then advise the hack administrators on how to make the pension system sing for them. Nice little game they have going.

No one ever retired from public school teaching in NY as a Millionaire based on that salary. Cuomo will settle with these guys. Maybe they will loose some years when they were counted as fulltime by multiple districts, but the lawyers will still win. Remember our part time legislators in Albany are most likely doing the same thing. If you check out the Albany Times Union website you can see that they want to change the law to allow an employee for the Nassau Board of Elections to get a larger pension and this is at the same time that the pension abuse scandal is going on.
Cuomo's Grandmother had her assets transferred to family members so that the family would not have to pay for her to go to a nursing home - Medicaid paid for that, so do you really expect him to go after people using the system for their own good?

DO you really think anything will change? Politically connected Lawyers bring the pension system to court. The NYS courts are filled with politically connected hack judges are suing the state to raise thier salaries and pensions. The end result will be the politically connected lawyers win.

Why does Newsday feel it necessary to "poke and prod" every public dollar? How about the insane corruption in the private sector that makes all our consumer prices that much higher? For example: Just look at all the corruption inside Newsday itself (Circulation-gate).

While you may not retire a millionaire 75,000 times an estimated 23 year retirement comes out to 1,725,000. Nice to not have to worry about accumulating that kind of money. How many average Long Islanders do you think have that sum squirreled away towards retirement? How many average Long Islanders have no pension benefits at all? Add to that sum the estimated value of paid retirement medical benefits. Even at an amount less than 75,000 per year it's far better than what the average taxpayer (non-governement of course!)is likely to ever see.

Who paid for the Masters degree? Who paid for the 75 more credits? Who pays into your pension? Who is paying for you and your spouse’s free lifetime health benefits?
