"With no end in sight for the US government shutdown that began on 1 October, the Department of Energy (DOE) is now preparing to shut down the sprawling complex of national laboratories that maintains nuclear weapons and performs a range of basic and applied research."

By Monday the 21st, if Congress doesn't decide to stop pouting, 16,000 people in New Mexico will be furloughed along with already furloughed federal employees, with no guarantees of back pay. Many related businesses may or may not be able to weather this storm as receivables come to a screeching halt. Tough times ahead if this comes to pass.
