Yeah. Right. 2010 to 2015. Add ten years plus $300 mil and MAYBE the deal goes through.

Outsider, what does your comment have to do with the land swap between UP and NM? You best stay in Los Angeles or anywhere in CA, you fit right in.

Hmmm I am mixed on this. On one hand, the reality of our world as we know it, trade between the US and our southern neighbors will happpen, so why not add efficiencies ot the process? On that hand, sounds good! Why get in the way of "progress"?
On the other hand, we already have the maquila zone where they exploit people's desperation to recruit rediculously cheap labor for the sake of keeping businesses competitive and prices of products lower. I will always feel someone who works 40 hours or more a week deserves an abode with running water, a roof that doesn't leak and the ability to live without constant fear of being gunned down (IE - living standards not universal for those we exploit in maquiladoras). This would do nothing to help those workers, and in fact, might increase the desire of companies to exploit even more desperate people by relocating to maquila zones both here and in other countries. |
