The doors of two Camden churches swung open shortly after daybreak on Dec. 14, with law enforcement officials inside hoping a two-day cash-for-guns program might help put a dent in the crime rate in one of America's most violent cities.

All these guns being turned-in in Camden is good news for the rest of New Jersey; fewer guns to fall in the hands of Gang-bangers. I usually abhor gun "buy-backs", but this is different. For good citizens, surviving unmolested in NJ is difficult with draconian gun laws and no CCW.

How nice giving the thugs money when jail time is what they should get.

When it happens in your 'neck of the woods,' will you be so enthused then, and follow suit?

I'm sure there was a steady stream of criminals turning in their firearms. But I am sure there are warm fuzzy feelings all around.

You have balls criticizing gun posts from your socialist country with NO rights to guns or even self-defence. I lived in that area outside of Camden and KNOW how dangerous that hell-hole IS. While I do not favor buybacks in general, the assumed goal has a better than average chance of being effective in THAT locale. IOW, a higher percentage of the guns handed in would likely fall into the wrong hands. And FYI, if that were to happen in my 'neck of the woods' I would be out there surveying the offerings and could legally buy any and all I wanted w/o permission from anyone. THAT is what it's like living in a free* country, as opposed to where YOU are. I can protect myself with any means available to me, and even shoot for recreation in my-own back yard ("garden"). I do not need to resort to pitchforks or butter knives to fend-off bad-guys. And I won't be arrested or even asked to visit the police station. In my neck o' the woods, there is a clear distinction between bad-guys and good citizens. The cops here are busy enough w/o making criminals out of citizens.
