For the unique & practical help, support and understanding of others "who have been there," there are about 6,750 no-fee, community support groups available in NJ to help people overcome for most any illness, disability, addiction, loss of a loved one, parenting situation, caregiver concern, traumatic experience, or any one of hundreds of other stressful life situations. So says, the NJ Self-Help Group Clearinghouse that provides that group information.
To see the support groups meeting in your NJ county: http://www.mededfund.org/NJgroups/Groups_By_C...
To see some of the major types of NJ groups available:
Would you like a copy of the NJ's most comprehensive listing of county, State and national hotlines & helplines? It all on one legal size sheet, that you can read or print out (it does require legal-size paper to fit in the 280 helplines). Note: the handout doesn't include the hundreds of toll-free helplines that the support groups operate.
If there is no local support group in your area, the NJ Self-Help Group Clearinghouse has information on an additional 1,350 national, international, online, and model mutual support group contacts. Do you have any interest in joining with others to start a needed new support group? The Clearinghouse will help you.
As one example of the handouts, if you know of a friend, relative, neighbor or co-worker who is having an especially difficult time coping with the DEATH of a LOVED ONE, there are over two hundred different, no-fee NJ grief support groups that help members deal with that painful loss, whether it be the loss of a life-long spouse, a miscarriage, dealth of a child, suicide, or for many other situations, here's a sampling of the understanding and support available:
For peer support and additional help in recovery from DEPRESSION, BIPOLAR DISORDER, & MANY OTHER DIFFERENT EMOTIONAL DISORDERS, there are a variety of support groups for those in recovery, and for parents, spouses and family members. To learn more: http://www.mededfund.org/NJgroups/Mini-Guide_...
Seeking a job? There are a fair number of JOB HUNTERS support groups that can you an upper hand, in learning about new jobs, job-hunting skills, and encouraging you to press on each week:http://www.mededfund.org/ NJgroups/FinancialGroups.pdf
A small sample of some of the support groups FOR WOMEN: http://www.mededfund.org/NJgroups/WomensGroup... The second page of the handout reflects research describing an underlying reason why more women (than men) are inclined to form or join support groups (incidentallty, that same research helps us understand why men are more resistent to stopping and asking for directions when under the stress of being lost).
For MANY MORE examples of the thousands of additional NJ volunteer-run support groups available:
So, to find or form a volunteer-run community support group, or learn about a national or online mutual support group, just call your NJ Self-Help Group Clearinghouse toll-free helpline 1-800-367-6274, more easily remembered as 1-800-FOR-M.A.S.H.(Mutual Aid Self-Help)- www.NJgroups.org
