Here we go again. Lin from EPONA horse rescue is asking for donations for horses she does not even have yet. Lin,is this going to be another Filley mess. Like when you took the Filley, NE horses? Then could not take care of them. And other rescues had to step in and take the horses to save them. Don't take on more than you can handle Lin. You have no other source of income except donations. You don't even work. So don't move these horses to starve somewhere else. Let the professionals handle this rescue! And please don't ask for donations because you do not have these horses and do not even know if you are going to get them!

Does Lin have any horses that she has asked the public for money for? We have been out there. The horses she is asking for donations for are not even there. Can anyone explain that?? I think everyone should take time to visit Lin's rescue. Ask to see these horses. We did. They were not there.

I visited Lins rescue and she has at least 45 horses that are in excellent health or well on their way. We left with a beautiful mare and are very happy with it. Lin did need to get started somewhere Quit smering her name

It seems that Lin at Epona Horse Rescue has done it again. Over the course of the last few months she has beggedd for funds and taken in over 25+ horses of her already 55+ size herd WHILE taking in 6 more horses - even if it was to be only temporary for at most 2 weeks.

The most recent are a begathon for 3 TWHs and another 3 grade Weanlings, of which have also come form the same kill buyer as the belgians she took. NOW not even 24 hours after the begathons for the current six - amazingly they are super sick and she is begging for more money to build fence and get medication...... AFTER she is begging others to take 25+ horses from her - some are free and other go up to $500 for "adoption" fees. There is SERIOUSLY something wrong here.

This SCREAMS hoarder to me and she is now ready to ask for help to "down size" Now due to vertigo - not sure how valid that is as it is usually a symptom, not a disease........ but giving her the benefit of the doubt ,she should have never taken so many horses in if she could not care for them to begin with ESPECIALLY so many in such a short time frame with no quarantine time before shoving some off on someone else.

Maybe I am not seeing things properly, but why would a rescue keep taking in more horses when they were just begging for money for hay less than 2 months ago for considerably less horses than she has now? Then she begged for money to get like 8 more horses and to feed them, THEN begged for money to get those belgians, THEN takes in several more horses and begs for more money to feed these horses - all in little over a month's time frame.....Something is just not right in my opinion.

It is so easy to come on a public forum and spout half truths and lies. FUNDRAISING for the needs of horses and to save horses is not begging. it is what a successfull 501 does every day! I personally think you are a jealous woman living in Norman Ne and pissed off over the success of Epona or the fact that someone finally recognized there was a person willing to stand and fight for the horses. Someone where it was about the horses and not the humans involved. This lead to a HUGE donation and a lifetime home for Epona and its horses.
So dear Val get a life, get a clue EPONA is not going antwhere and continues to earn the respect of the public. Unlike you who is the reason horses rescue is dispised in this part of the country. Kudos to Lin, Larry, and all that make Epona what it is..

I have three beautiful rescued mares from Epona. I've been there, I've seen the horses- all are in beautiful condition or at least on their way. Raise $- that's what a 501 does! The people spouting these half truths- lets all look at their websites, they adopt out horses before they've completely healed, are trying to adopt out lame horses under the idea that they should be ridden by small adults or children only. Epona adopts lame horses as NOT ridable and as companion horses. Glass houses people!

LMAO, well that's what rescue's and 503c's do, they ask the public for donations, no different than what the ASPCA or the Humane Society does but I don't see you bashing THEM, now do I?
I think what we have here is a bunch of angry premenapausal women bashing someone that they barely or know at all. I seriously think you all need to grow up and get a new hobby and a life.
My brother runs a 503c organization and he has raised over $5 MILLION dollars, all by asking the PUBLIC for donations, again, that's what these types of organizations DO ! Get over yourselves, grow up and get real. You make a bad name for not only yourselves but for these type of rescues across the country.

Just today I recevied a request from Epona for money. It was stated that two horses had to be sent to slaughter last week due to not enough money to feed all the horses there. I will not send money to an organization that admits to sending horses to slaughter. Shame on you Epona.

Somehow or another you must have misread something or are just dreaming this nonsense up, I gather in reality is the later. I suggest honestly before you go around spouting these types of lies and liable that you get your facts straight! I highly doubt if you'd like someone such as the State Attorney Generals office to have your IPS address located and liable charges brought against you, so really, shame on YOU for spreading such lies and making up horrible things about people who are simply trying to help animals who are otherwise left to defend for themselves and might otherwise die. When you spread these types of lies you hurt ALL rescues, not just your "enemies". Here's a helpful free piece of advise to you and your ilk ... GROW UP and get a life!
Horses need us

I was looking for a rescue to assist with helping my daughter and I find homes for several horses we have rescued at various auctions. We are already having a hard time with trying and finding them a home and now with all of this bad mouthing and bashing of rescue groups it is even more troubling. I think what the rescue groups do is amazing and selfless and hats off to you. We got our first rescue horse from a animal shelter my daughter volunteered at and we still have Daisy today. My daughter was the one who first got us into going to auctions because of looking up horse slaughter on the internet and wanting to know more about it. We visited a rescue website and she listed the auctions that were high kill buyer auctions and we went and to this day it is the saddest and most horrific thing I have ever experienced or seen. There were horses with their eyes poked out, bones jutting out of their bodies, blue and black marks on their faces and bodies, starved beyond imagine, and more. My daughter left that auction crying nad I left it knowing that something needs to be done. We now have 15 horses and 11 of them came from a auction and the highest we paid was 150.00 for one horse and the cheapest was 1.00. Its not about the money or the time it takes to bring an animal back, but about the life you have changed and saved.Instead of bad mouthing EPONA maybe these concerned people should take on some of the horses themselves or try and help find them homes or do something constructive to help the HORSES because thats what it is about. I know its hard to look at an animal and walk away from it knowing that it will end up suffering a painful and horrible death and that is why we have 15 horses because it is one of hte hardest decisions you have to make when you leave an animal to suffer.

To Horses Need Us .. yes, horses now more than ever need our help, the bad economy has forced many horse owners to abandon their horses. However, with that being said, if you are planning on putting horses into rescue, make sure you investigate the rescue throughly. I have been shocked and dismayed by some of these people who claim that they have the horses best interest at heart when in fact it's about the money and only the money. I know of one rescue here in Nebraska who is :::GASP::: planning on breeding a mare next year so they can get the money out of the foal. How awful is THAT? It's a shame and a pity that it's all about the money. You'd be better off nursing these animals back to health and selling them yourself as a private owner. Good Luck to you!

I am now eating my hat :::chomp chomp chomp::: please excuse me while a I drink a bit of water as that hat is rather dry.

:::CLEARING MY THROAT NOW:::

You see, I have found out new information about Lin and EPONA and I have every reason to believe now that her rescue is in serious trouble and that with the level of income she makes and the small donations that she is able to attract that soon we will be hearing tragic news of her rescue and of horses dying horrific deaths. I do now believe that she is indeed a hoarder and loves the thrill of the rescue and the attention she recieves from it. I now believe that it's not all about the horses but rather the "high" she gets from all of the actual rescue.

I hope I'm wrong about this but and if I am, I'll eat yet another hat.

This crap about Lin being a hoarder and abuser needs to stop period!
I met this lady at a horse rescue out here in western Nebraska and I think she has a heart of gold.
The soul purpose of a rescue is to ask for help in feeding and care of abused and neglected horses.
Someone has to step up to the plate and take the pitches, bitches and moans of the public and this lady is doing it.
Horse rescues in this part of the country are few and far between.
If you don't want to help her out than don't, but by damn don't be bashing her with lies and contempt.
Every rescue out there has more horses than they need, but at least they are trying to save the horses.
I have a mare and foal I rescued from the god awful 3-strikes mess, I took five of the horses and found great loving, caring homes for them. Those horses are safe now and have all recovered.
I never made a dime off of them and had over $300.into each one of them horses.
You can just figure a horse is going to cost you over $25 per month just to pasture it. Vet care will run over $100 to straighten one out, then there is the wormer and vaccines.
Every horse rescue needs the money.
Epona is a legitemate enterprise and all she is doing is asking for help.

(The soul purpose of a rescue is to ask for help in feeding and care of abused and neglected horses.) WHAT??? The sole purpose of a Horse Rescue is to RESCUE, REHAB, REHOME !!! It is NOT to take in more than you yourself can personally care for and then beg for money to TRY to take care of an over crowded facility. If you sit down and prepare a budget you will KNOW what can be cared for by you personally if all funding dries up. If you can not carry a good foundation for your rescue on your own and out of your own pocket then you have no business rescuing horses. That is a simple fact. I am also sick and tired of seeing rescues using horses that no longer have a good quality of life as their begathon gimic to get more money into their rescue. There is such a thing as humane euthanasia and it should be used for those poor horses that will never carry out a good quality of life. There are also things that a rescue needs to have such as equine knowledge, facilities, the ability to either train the horses for rehoming or a good trainer on hand, volunteers etc etc The horse rescue world is going to hell in a hurry and they only have themselves to blame.

She'll tell you anything and everything she wants you to know but at the end of the day she's still a hoarder and MANY MANY people think this so Jim, seriously if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck guess what Jim, I'm guessing it's a duck

I am to the point right now after having seen the stuff that goes on at horse rescues that I could throw my hat in the ring and walk away from all this!
here is what I have gone through in a long rough year with you bleeding hearts out there who complain and moan all the time.
Last year in April I went out to take care of a bunch of horses that were supposedly being starved to death.
I wasn't about to see a bunch of horses starve to death nor was I going to ignore the possibility someone was going to go through a bad rap due to a bunch of "bunny huggers", making accusations about someone at least trying to care for horses.
What i found was a bunch of really hungry horses and about a hundred dead horses scattered all over in the hills.
I'm not a vet, but I did see some starving horses, what the rest died from I can't honestly say, what I suppose is that someone got way in over his head, didn't see a way out and let horses die because he had no easy solution.
There were other extenuating circumstances that led up to the wreck. Those all led up to this terrible.
People like you donated money thinking they were helping horses out, supposedly they sent in the money and this guy never spent it on what it was intended for...I stuck it out helping them horses for 24 days, with a lot of help from HSUS and other rescues.
Epona helped out, and that is all I know about the lady who runs it.
I got paid for the use of my equipment and I took the money offered by HSUS to defray my expenses, I never asked for it, it was offered, I neglected my own place and stuck to the situation... I was there I saw the situation and I stayed...Epona helped, so I assume she is a good person...I do support her efforts, and I think she is a good person....with my experience in this drama I think she came through and at least tried...so for you guys sitting in arm chairs and just having time to comment like a bunch of gossiping old women kind of irks me just tad bit!
I have had a little over a year to think about what transpired during this thing and the conclusions I come up with tic me off a little.
Here is my solutions and reccomendations to all of you.
Make it a law that all rescues need to be accredited by the humane society, make the society responsible for the outcome of these rescues, and make the society be responsible for handing out the money to legitemate rescues and themselves.
Without some form of governing these rescues are all going to find themselves in question.
It doesn't have to even be the HSUS, but these rescues need to be held accountable for what happens to their charges and the funds.
Horses need help, but it is damned near an impossible task saving them all.
If you want to see horse rescues work, support them and make them responsible...there ain't a day goes by that some horse don't suffer to some degree, unfortunately the people that get involved personally don't always have the funds to make it work, and most importantly, some of these rescues are crooked.
I don't think Epona is crooked, she just seems to want to care and help out...she at least asks for help, that is more than some do!
