The state will lose this if they take it to court.

Not necessarily. It depends what the state constitution says and what the state laws say.

Are you aware that Nebraska is the only state in the union with a unicameral legislature ?

That is SO sad. My wife and I travelled through there last summer, and we found 90% of the people very friendly.

It's the same as in Holland MI. 5 of the city council members there voted to deny GLBTQ people equal protection under the law. I grew up there, and am SO glad that I moved to California!

Holland, the Bigot Capital of Michigan. I used to assist homeschool families in my area, and went to some state conferences. This was the hotbed of the "Christian Homeschool MOM". They didn't consider the families I helped REAL homeschool families.

They were even bigoted about that.

Remember that this is an OPINION only... and from a republican AG that apparently wants to run for office on an anti-gay platform. It will come to haunt him later. As the article states, it has no chance of withstanding a court challenge. Just another example of no-new-idea gop standing for little but bigotry.

The KKK was started by bigots, which just happen to be mostly Republicans nowadays.

Personally, I don't think Republicans are more likely to be bigots. I think bigots are more likely to be Republicans.

The state legislators have tried this in certain contexts in PA, which I heard today has the most municipal glbt rights ordinances of any state/commonwealth in the country.

(Of course this little stat is true because the more educated states have statewide glbt rights laws, and thus don't need 20 separate, local ones.)

I'd look for this AG's opinion to be the next emerging form of backlash.

Since MORE DEMOCRATS were thrown out of office in the House of Representatives, and the state houses, than at any time in the past 70 years, I would say you're wrong.

Now the part you don't like. The kind of people who formed the KKK were indeed Democrats shortly post "War Between the States". After the Federal Civil Rights Act was passed and signed in the 1960s the CHANGED parties and became Republicans and remain so to this day.
