If you don't want to go to a courthouse in the county where the land is I would suggest searching for a landman's association and calling around.
http://www.landman.org/old_site/localChapters...
or similar.

You could also contact NARO.

The National Association of Realty Owners might be able to offer help.

My wife's grandparents owned land in McKenzie co ND and her mom sold this land before she pasted away in 2006. I know the section/twn/range numbers. But what I need to know is if her mom sold the minerals. Can I research this on the internet without going to ND? Is there someone in the business that you would recommend to pay to research this for me? Or do I have to go to ND and research this myself? How long would it take for me to do it myself I have the means and the time???
Thanks
Hire a title company. They can research this for you.

I just posted a question relating to this. My moms former property is in the town of dunn which obviouslly is in Dunn County. They no longer own the land but own mineral rights. Seems some greedy oil companies are being selective about whos property they drill. The reason for this is they do a 45 degree angle drill so they can drill from their neighbors and into our reservior.
You are totally wrong--what you suggest is both illegal and tightly regulated.

They can be selective about whose property they drill.
But not in they way you suggest at this point in time.

Hey big fish and bill out west``` we have been receiving really good offers to buy our mineral rights in McKenzie. You two seem to have the best info out there. What do you think... I thought that maybe it means that they might know something we don't know about??? Really appreciate all the advice you two have given out in the past.

We have also been contacted by Beyond Horizon. Never heard of either the company nor the landman Curt Casterline and can find no info either. My guess is they are flippers or else new to the ND/MT area relocating from the south... pure speculation on my part. I would ask them about their background and experience next time you speak with them.

I have had several offers from Bridgepoint Mineral acquisition fund in the past and they were always under market. Permian Basin just offered me $2,000 acre this week in McKenzie Co. I have never responded to any of their letters so it's possible they may negotiate upward. You should have a really really REALLY compelling reason to consider selling.

No, I am with you. I would never sell my mineral rights. Just trying to convince some of the other family members that it isn't a good idea. The Bridgepoint web site states all the reasons why a person should sell. Makes you wonder why they would even want them the way the talk. Thanks for your comment.

I have leased my oil rights in Montrail County. I wonder if there is any activity as far as drilling goes in that area.

Is there any way to find out what the average barrels per day a Bakken well in McKenzie County produces? Can you point me to any websites that would have this information?

Thanks!
