I live in Tobaccoville, NC and early one morning, 6:00am, I spotted a healthy looking coyote snooping around the farm. I have cats, dogs and chickens and nothing has gone missing. We're lucky though we have fox, bobcat, deer, raccoon, skunk and plenty of wildlife.

We here coyotes often on Davis Road, some farmers have lost small sheep and goats. They are there!

I live in Clemmons, NC - a suburb of Winston-Salem. My cat and my neighbor's cat are missing and the coyotes howl loudly in our neighborhood some nights. Several have been seen. They are getting bolder. I guess an indoor/outdoor cat is no longer a good idea in NC.

2 coyotes tried to kill my G Shephard in front yard. One lunged from front and other snuck up from behind-husband ran waving arms to break it up. Later a doe swam off our island in lake so the coyotes were probably chasing her.

Coyotes don't howl.

Quit letting the dark scare you.

It's not Wildlife in NC you have to worry about.

remember that WNC 'officials' wont acknowlege the presence of mountain lions/BIG cats in WNC but they are here

but you are right Joe, its the corrupt NC democrats that are worrisome.

I saw a coyote walking along 15/501 in Carthage on the night of July 30. He looked like he was looking for something to eat.

It must have been rabid....or part dog. Coyotes stay away from people

We had something, probably coyotes, rip the gutter off our house here in Southern Pines last month (July), and again this morning about 7am Aug 24th, 2008). If it's a coyote I don't like them coming that close to my house.

Pretty certain that I saw a greyish brown coyote run across Guess Rd just past Milton Rd at dusk in early August. I've seen red fox and Grey fox, but this critter was very, very fast and while its legs moved, its head, body, and tail were perfectly still and its tail parallel to the ground as it ran. This critter was about 30-40 pounds. I also came across a blog posted at the same time with a report that two coyotes were spotted a mile and a half farther north on Guess Rd near the Fox Run subdivision in Durham.

They have been a problem for my cousin and his goats. We live in Haywood County. They have trapped and killed 4. He hires a licensed trapper to stet the traps. He and his neighbors have had many goat killed by them. He now has 2 llamas in his pasture, they help scare them off. They also caught a small mountain lion but they let him go. I drive across Balsam in the early morning and have seen my share, almost hit a few too.

While up in the Great Smokey Mtns. recently,we came across 2 different packs. One momma had twins the other had triplets. Those babies were beautiful.I took several photos of each family. The pups weren't a bit afraid of humans.I strongly suspect that they had been fed for quite a while by humans. That is a sad thing too.Not only is it NOT the proper diet for them but it increases the danger that these lovely critters will be killed.

Two years ago I say a coyote walk between the fence and creek at the edge of our property in Wake County. A couple of night later my wife and I heard coyotes howling (or whatever you call it.) Every once in a while since then we heard them at night. Last night is the first night we have slept with the windows open in a while. We heard them again. It is a very different sound than anything else I have heard in NC.
