My husband and I are thinking of moving to Montana. This is something we have thought about for some time. We are from the southeast of the US, and know no one in Montana- but have heard so much about it. We are in love with the outdoors, and really want to relocate somewhere where we can just have a fresh start- financially , etc. We are not sure where to begin our search of cities to move to, however we both would like to be close to Yellowstone if possible. I have a paralegal degree, he has worked mostly in the automotive industry and wondering about jobs there as well. Any help- suggestions, etc would be appreciated. What is it like to live there? What is the least likeable thing about living there? What is the state minimum wage? Those kinds of things.

The best of luck to you finding a job, especially in western montana. I have lived all over Montana, and it is a place I will always call home. Please do your research prior to coming though. Montana is ranked 44th in household income. Median wages for men is around 24,000 and women is around 20,000. Poverty level is quite high. Bozeman would have the best job opportunities for western montana. It is also the closest city to Yellowstone.

You don't live in Montana to make money. You live in Montana to live.

Hi! What area are you wanting to move to? I live in Billings and I can give you some insight to living here. My husband is from Helena and I lived there as well for awhile. The cost of living in Billings is one of the lowest in the state for the bigger cities. The surrounding areas are also very affordable if you don't mind commuting (Park City, Laurel, Lockwood, Shepherd). The minimum state wage is $7.35/hr. If you are really considering either Helena or Billings, I can certainly help you with that as I do know the areas. I don't know much about the other big cities, but I have friends who live in each so I can certainly get more info from them. I do know the cost of living is fairly high in Bozeman, Missoula and Helena. Let me know what specifically you are looking for as far as area, jobs, etc goes and I will help with what I can.

My hubby and I are talking about moving as well to Montana. We love the small communities where the folks are friendly unlike where we live. We also love the outdoors whether it be hunting, fishing or just walking and seeing the beauty of mother nature. As we have done some research, we want to be close to a large city, we are thinking Billings. We looked at Laurel and the surrounding areas. We are looking for some acreage to move our current ranch too as well as have the ability to have several houses on the land for the in laws and children. We really want to know is what are the dislikes besides the cold weather that we need to know? We appreciate any input and information anyone can share with us.

ey link, make sure to continue to go for your guns ! As more a -bush pig hits on rise , TAKE A BITE OUT OF USA CRIME ! DONT SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL POLICE, SKUNK THEM UNDER !84-year-old man allegedly beaten by police officer after calling 911
An Alabama police officer allegedly hospitalized an elderly man who called 911 to report an accident across the street from his house while his wife watched the entire beating from her wheelchair.
Disgrace, it seems the American authorities are given more and more power, and reducing consequences, and making it harder to bring these attackers to justice.

To give you an example of the reduction of consequences, take a look at this case, where a woman is beaten, more like tortured by US police, then when she filed complaints, the attacker was not convicted of any crime.

The video has horrific pictures of the injuries so don't watch if you have soft stomach.

Donald,
You have some nerve saying this. You have absolutely no say or control as to where my family and I want to move. If there is no more land for sale as you claim, then the Real Estate agents must be lying right? Funny thing is, there are websites out there to view properties for sale but they must be misleading the public as well?
Just remember not everyone from California is Mexican.
Have yourself a great day. My family wishes you and your family a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Donald posts on all of these threads. Pay no attention he is just another loser posting from his mom's basement. Most Montanans are friendly and welcoming as long as you don't bring a yuppie attitude with you.

We have visited Red Lodge a number of times and love what we see.

However, does anyone (except Donald LOL) have any inside info regarding Red Lodge? We are retired Alaskans, no job needed. Is Red Lodge open to newcomers?

good luck, a example. There is alot of things that people that lived here there whole life do not see.

1 Major pay cuts in half.

2 If you are not a native you never will be. People do not treat women, children , etc with much respect. There are some that do. would try to steer clear of montana. every one there trys to get all they can from you and help you in NO way. This gose all the way to the fish and game.

Houseing is not only HIGH there, its very little to NO codes for building. It is not unormal to see MANY MANY USA OSHA VIOLATIONS , news papers for insalation. This also depends on who built the home. it is just hard to know whom is whom till you have lived in the small cult fraud areas.

In most of the land for sale there, you can just bearly grow WEEDS,most all the good ground was sold.

The normal things you have now you will not get up there .Types of food,90% of the fruit SUCKS.The beef in the stores also is not to good.

The lack of manners is very bad.If you open doors for ladys people , old and young Very very few people will let you pull out of a side street.Lots and lots of cursing in front of ladys and kids,[if the ladys them selves dont do it].

It is allmost unheard of to get help if you break down in the moutains.people walked 11 miles with kid on their back. Many many cars passed ,when some one stoped it was a man and lady from NJ just site seeing.

Fishing is no way as good as good as different places. There is not much for bait fish up there and you have to spend 2 weeks reading the backwords book.If you call fish and game beprepared to spend hour or so on the phone with set up threats over nothing, It is very hard to find laws out or whom knows the laws.LOTS and lots of miss prints in the reg book.

The price of fishing and hunting gear is NUTS. buy all your stuff for way under half in other states even with tax on a price.

Think about it this way. The people that moved to the moutains where miners.Every one knows what miners are like. This is why you should think twice, if your a older person that does not hunt, ski, or fish, dont even bother.

more crimes in school,There is lots of drugs.
Lots open public land with nothing.

Many different types of animals and over populations

Ice fishing I am sure down there you have very very little of that.

Few rain days. Super long dark winters and super short summers.

also watch for baby daddy hunters and pick ups on hubbys ans wifes, areas open sex and std spreads, stay away from public water, research water issues as you cut through all the conceals , etc, unsafe place to raise kids. And simply a small fry rural limited culture all the way. Example, EXAMPLE, all areas can do is lie, as direct evidence exposed them, they back away with no way to lie. Get it, areas small fry cults .

Anyone who calls Montana "Montucky" is from one of the two most horrible places in the state of MT, which would be Great Falls or Butte. Montana is great, I don't recommend moving to either of those towns though. I would also recommend ignoring the montana hater above.

Wow...good thing internet forums in no way represents anything besides the poster and their mental issues. My wife and I are looking to move to Montana this year. Just North of Billing in the Bull Mountain area. I can't wait to put some distance between me and all these leftist 'gub'mint's their babies daddy whacko's....

I notice one poster claimed the average male income was around 22k... Well add another another 1k to that and you would barely cover the land and school taxes I have to pay here in the leftist turdbowl known as New York... So before you draw and conclusions on income you should also make sure you research the cost of living off set...

To MissoMontana; If you read this I would really appreciate any and all information and guidance you could pass along in regards to Billings and the surrounding region. Thank you very much!
