I have several tracts of mineral rights in Richland County Montana. I know the legal discriptions. How do I find out what company (if any) is drilling or has activity on that land?

I have 254 acres of mineral rights in Richland County Montana in the Elm Coulee Oil Field area.
Petro-Hunt LLC has an geophysical permit presently but they have not leased and their time runs out on
May 1, 2011. There are 1760 total acres in the parcel, divided equally @ 254 acres per member.
One of the family members just received an offer
to lease, but I did not as Diamond Resources probably saw that Petro-Hunt has a permit on mine
until May 1, 2011. Nothing is happening currently in spite of the fact the land sits within the Elm Coulee Oil Field. Based on current data on the
Bakken Basin, and the obvious presence of hugh
oil reserves, what would be a fair expectation
should I should decide to sell the mineral rights now?

I have been contacted by Turner Oil & Gas wanting to lease my mineral rights in Rosebud Co. Has anyonhe heard of this company? They offered $20 per acre and 1/8 if oil is found. This seems low to me.

I, too, have been offered $20/acre by Turner for my family's interest in Rosebud County. Has anyone replied to your query? Have you accepted Turner's offer?

I have not accepted their offer yet. I think the price is too low and the lease is too long.

Did you ever decide what to do? We just leased 960 acres (oil and mineral rights only) in Rosebud County. I don't know if it's going to be drilled or not. You may contact me at: [email protected]
I am considering an offer of $20/acre and 15% royalty for a 10-year lease on my 320 Rosebud County acres.. Based on what you were offered a year ago, does this seem like a fair offer?

Thanks.

Anybody that has oil amd mineral rights in Sumtra MT have any movement when it comes to drilling? We leased our rights 2 years ago with Montana Oil Properties and nothing is happening. I can't understand why anyone would pay a lease and then not go forward. Free money for us I guess.

I was wondering if anybody can offer insight on advantages/disadvantages of buying versus selling oil and mineral rights?
Four of us in the family have inherited 500 acres in Rosebud County and just got an offer to sell for about $32k or lease for $8k plus % of oil profits (I think it's about 12%?).
Sorry to not offer more details, but this came suddenly, and long distance. I know an attorney needs to be involved eventually, but I'm just trying to get a general idea if this is a realistic offer either way, or nonsense. The company is Canyon Natural Gas out of Billings. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I just received a copy of a "Paid in Full Oil and Gas Lease" (for 1920 acres in Rosebud County) from the executor of my grandparent's trust. Lease was from Montana Dakota Utilities. Anybody heard of them. E-mail any info to [email protected]

That is low. I just signed a lease for my mineral rights in NE Sheridan Cty for $275/acre for 3 years, with an option to release for another 3 years at $300/ acre. The royalty I was given was 18%. This was from Whitmar Exploration. From my looking on the web, it seems royalty should fall in the 18-18 3/4% range.

There are several of us who signed with SDC early in the year (see above comments)and none of us have received payment yet. Our option to lease was signed the first week of January and we have not gotten our checks. The lease will expire next week and I don't expect to see anything from them. I would be very careful about signing with them as I understand they have been signing leases for over a year with people and as of yet have not paid on one of them. It is your choice just don't expect payment if you do, from my experience it has just been a bunch of empty promises. There are a few other companies leasing in Sheridan county. You might ask around before you decide to sign.

They have contacted me and have the acreage wrong right off the bat, and have promised an initial check for a per acre payout of $150.00 per acre for three years, then two hundred per acre if they can have an option to go another two years on the lease and exercise that right. Also, the royalty rate is 16.75%
We will not sign this lease as your post indicates they have not paid you or others. If you wish to contact me please do so through this post and than we can exchange further contact info. Thanks for your post.

First of all I think maybe you should realize that SDC is a company that has pumped a lot of money into this community and have employed a lot of people. How many times have people signed leases and not been fulfilled??? Answer tons. SDC has started paying people and has a oil company to drill the land to boot. The tri-county area really needs the money brought to the communtiy and maybe we should all stop acting like little gossipy children and grow up!! A company would not just set up in an office in a small town and screw everybody over with a ton of local people working there. Come on now people have a brain and realize oil does take a little time and maybe you should realize that minerals are a gift and the money is a gift!!!
