This is insane though you didn't see liberals trying to secede from the union after bush won his 2nd term. This is flat out bigotry. Even entertaining such a ridiculous idea is silly but think about the implications on foreign relations, on the state economy, and the general welfare and safety of the citizens. No one wanted to trade with the confederacy as they shouldn't have it was an illegitimate government. No nation would seek relations with a breakaway state that is rife with social issues such as poverty, racism, fundamentalist religious extremism and is an enemy of the largest superpower in the world. This is flat out ignorance.
Yep, I kinda like joking about it, but it really shows how shallow and short sited these sad excuses for Americans can be....Like "Yeah, let's destroy the greatest democracy the world has ever known because we hate this particular president..."?????????

This petition of course will not cause Mississippi to achieve independence, but we need to do something to get the ball rolling.

“Defeating Barack Obama in November is even more important to limit the intrusion of the federal government into our daily lives and fight for the full repeal of Obamacare.”
— Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves

...For every 1,000 Mississippi babies born in 2011, 9.4 died before their first birthday, according to the state's health office. That makes Mississippi's infant mortality rate more comparable to countries such as Costa Rica (9.2), Sri Lanka (9.5) and Botswana (10.5) than the United States (6.0), according to latest estimates in the CIA World Factbook.

Mississippi is 50th out of 50 states when it comes to infant mortality, and it's been that way for a long time, says state health officer Mary Currier.

Mississippi ranked dead last among all the states in terms of overall health according to the Commonwealth Fund. On the bright side, food is abundant, as the state has very high levels of obesity.

Mississippi also leads the nation in weekly church attendance (60%), in frequency of daily prayer (77%), and in the number of people who believe in God (91%).

––Their 2006 per capita income was the lowest in the country at $26,908 (though this is somewhat offset by Mississippi’s low cost of living).

–Finally, in 2008, the state ranked last in academic achievement by the American Legislative Exchange Council.

Sounds like Mississippi is giving the USA a bad name....

Apparently, Barack Obama was right. White working-class voters really do cling to guns and religion.

TMC the state receives more money from the federal government than is paid in income taxes. Mississippi would be so utterly hopeless on its own.
Most of the Federal governments revenue does not come from an income tax. It comes from raping our land and taxing of goods. Raping the land meaning oil and gas revenue from oil leases, timber sales from national forests ect. Tarrifs on goods ect

EVERYBODY WANT TO CALL MISSISSIPPI A WELFARE STATE. WHERE DID YALL GET THAT FROM..IS IT SOMETHING YOU ALL MADE UP TO DEGRADE BLACKS BECAUSE I KNOW THAT'S WHO YOU BELIEVE IS GETTING WELFARE. FIRST OF ALL IF SOME OF THESE POLITIANS CAN GET OFF THEIR BUTT AND VISIST THE POOREST COUNTIES IN MISSISSPI. DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE JOBS NOT BEING THERE. THE TOWN I AM FROM I WATCHED FOUR LARGE COMPANIES PACK UP AND MOVE TO MEXICO ALL IN 2 YEARS. AND NO ONE CAME TO SAVE US WITH JOBS. STILL THERE ARE NO JOBS THERE. AND YOU ALL WANT TO TALK ABOUT THINGS BEING BAD BECAUSE OF PRESIEDNT OBAMA. THINGS WAS BAD LONG BEFORE HE EVER TOOK OFFICE. JUST GOT TO THROW THE BLAME ON THE BLACK. I RAISED 3 CHILDREN, PUT TWO THROUGH COLLEGE AND ONE IS STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL AND I HAVE NEVER GOT A DIME OF WELFARE. WELFARE EXISTED LONG BEFORE OBAMA. SOME OF YOU MAY HAVE BEEN RAISED OFF OF WELFARE JUST DON'T WANT YOUR FRIENDS TO FIND OUT. THIS STATE HAS BEEN POOR LONG BEFOR SOME OF US WAS BORN. THIS STATE HAS BEN BEHIND IN EDUCATION LONG BEFORE OBAMA. THIS PLACE HAS BEEN RACIST LONG BEFORE OBAMA.THESE STATE HAS HAD CROOKS LONG BEFORE OBAMA. SO BASICALLY EVERYTHINH YOU ARE TRYING TO GET AWAY FROM IS STILL HERE. BUT I REFUSE TO ALLOW A STATE FULL OF RACIST PEOPLE DICTATE MY LIFE OR MY CHILDREN LIFE.
I can really tell that they're behind in education due to the numerous gramatical errors in this comment^^. Also, not everybody thinks of black people when they think of welfare. I myself think of a redneck, obese white person who has no desire to work whatsoever and sits around his or her trailer everyday watching tv on a huge plasma screen, the most important thing to buy of course, not a real house or decent car. Just a tv.

Born and raised in Biloxi, served in the UNITED STATES ARMY, fought in South America...my father served in the UNITED STATES Air Force, fought in Vietnam...my uncle served in the UNITED STATES Marine Corps, fought in Korea...my grandfather served in the UNITED STATES ARMY, fought in Germany during WWII . . .this should not be a debate. I am genuinely and personally affronted that my nephew is currently serving in the UNITED STATES Marine Corps in Afghanistan...meaning that four generations of MY family sweat blood, cried and died for us to be a UNITED STATES. Secession did not work in 1860, it sure as hell isn't going to work now. And all the racist bigotry, and black folks playing on the racist bigotry - well, you're all entitled to your opinions but seriously - SHUT UP. It's old and played and we're all sick of hearing it. Every time I hear a Caucasian, an ignorant ass with a thick drawl use a racial epithet, or an African American - LIVING INTO THE GHETTO STEREOTYPE - play the race card I want to punch you both in the face for being so damn dumb. At some point, we all have to work together. That's the whole idea. If you really want to affect a change, harass and harangue your representatives, suggest and idea, or run for office...do something about it, don't just bitch. Another novel idea would be to stop electing the same corrupt assholes to office you keep voting in there every time an election comes up. Learn the system, use it, effect change.

The best option for Deep South welfare states like Mississippi would be to adopt the Brazil model of miscegenation. Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, and Alabama all have at least a 35% African American population and a huge race and religion problem.

The solution to ending poverty, religious fundamentalism and racism in the region would be to encourage more mixing of the races in that location until there isn't a single identifiable race(s) in that tragic region of the USA.

The feminist women need to rebel in the Deep South and refuse to reproduce or even acknowledge white males and stick to black males. I mean, blacks in MS and Louisiana were the product of selective breeding on the plantations, so they are genetically superior and stronger than the poor white male rednecks down there.

Encourage white women and black males to mix each other out in Dixie, and racism and poverty would end over the next two decades.

I was born in Miss. but have lived in Florida long enough to call it home. (Over thirty years.) Even though secession is an act of treason, Mississippi is a state the USA is better off without. The state of Mississippi takes back more in taxes than what it contributes, and all the while is dominated by people like my grandfather who have nothing better to do than complain about non-whites looking for handouts.
