My son has been in Tutwiler almost a year. To those that are making the remarks that are hurtful. You must live a lonely life to have to come here and try to hurt others. I feel sorry for your lonely lives, my son did not choose to leave the state and be transferred, there were no choices at all. He is coping and I have heard the same thing, very racist, the guards, especially the females guards. Buttercup - I think you are one of them. You can not spell or talk well. That is what I have heard they talk like.
Most people on here making them comments are hard working citizens! Why would you think someone lives a lonely life because they don't like crooks and murderes?! It just shows what kind of life you live! When your son did the crime- he CHOSE to have done what the system decides to do!

I live in California and some of the articles I have been reading, seems as thou the citzen of that city (Tutwiler)think we want our children there. And they are ever so wrong.
If we get enough California parents together maybe we can fright the Governor to bring our children/love ones back home to us!
I know one thing I do not what my son down there working like a slave on anything.
i am one of the ms residents who are just like you all. my brother was convicted in califonia, moved to arizona, and now at tccf (tutwiler). i sent a visitation form in last summer and have yet to see my brother or hear anything about being approved. i haven't seen my brother since 1996- that's when he moved to california. so while you all were able to go to visits unless the prison was on lockdown you all got to see your loved ones. mine is two hours from me and i still can't see him. it's not that mississippians are happy to have the cali crew (we have enough inmates of our own and more added daily), the papers make things seem the way they really aren't.

My son was sent from CDC to Arizona then sent to Mississippi. In his letters he informs me that there are many gangs in this prison and they are constantly on lock down. Tonight, 3/20/10 he was stabbed. I recieved a phone call with only tha information, nothing else!! I was able to contact the prison control room and it was confirmed. Does anyone have any contacts to this prison?

California has something like 32 prisons - run by the State. How come the guards union, that has been without a contract for years isn't stopping this? This certainly isn't in their best interest.

All this is old it's 2010 and my son say's the food is bad and he's alway's hunger. And he would rather be in Cal. And it's not right to take them away from there family's and the phone call's are more money. And the lockdown's go on for ever .I was seeing my son ever couple week's.It's just not right that they don't have a choice about being moved. My son has been moved 2 times now. He has 2 more years so I will not see him tell he get's out not right it's all about the money.....

DOES MS. FOOT THE BILL? LOL YEAH RIGHT!!! ITS US TAXPAYERS THAT FOOT THE BILL FOR THESE OUT OF STATE TRANSFERS! ITS TRUE THE TREATMENT OF THE PRISONERS IS BETTER IN THESE PRIVATE PRISONS, UNFORTUNATELY IT ALSO MEANS THAT WHILE OUT OF STATE MANY INMATES WILL HAVE NO VISITS WITH THEIR FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES. WHATS EVEN MORE SO RIDICULOUS IS THAT THEY ARE TRANSFERRING PEOPLE, LIKE MY FIANCE THAT HAVE A SHORT TIME LEFT ACROSS THE COUNTRY JUST TO TURN AROUND AND SEND THEM HOME AFTER 1 1/2 YEARS. SO MY QUESTION IS WHY ARE MY TAX DOLLARS PAYING TO FLY MY FIANCE ACROSS THE COUNTRY JUST SO THE GOVERNOR CAN GET OUT OF THE HOT SEAT WITH PRISON OVER CROWDING? WHATS EVEN WORSE THAN THAT WHY ARE MY TAX DOLLARS CREATING JOBS AND STIMULATING THE ECONOMY IN A STATE WHERE I DONT EVEN LIVE???

If you have your sons cdc# write it along with his name and write the last location prision address he was at were you had written to him at,Being a cal prison the mail should be sent to him at his new prison site,The letter should catch up to him or forwarded to him,it might take a while due to the amount of mail most prisons genrate,Yet dont send money orders or photos till you have his new location sent by him,This is just a basic way to make contact with him or her that has been transsfred to another prison out of state,I was there before I know how the system works, you can try to contact the prison yet your dealing with the human factor that way,Better off trying to have the letter forwarded to his new location,

Prisons in PA are filled too so they send them out in the middle of the night so no one can ambush them while moving to escape.

Moved to Viginia and another state.

My son was recently sent to Tutwiler, Mississippi. He was suppose to go to Oaklahoma but was sent Tutwiler. He is in "lock-down" because the state does not have a place for Northerners so to protect the staff and other inmates they put northerners on lock down status. My son has said nothing but good things about Tutwiler. He said that the food was Great! They have Playstation 3, the staff was nice but that they DO NOT answer questions. My son is far away but I have peace knowing that he is safe and likes where he is at. I'm thankful that he only has 10 months to home. I pray for my son and others that are away from their families.

I have read a lot of the posting on here and I was hoping that my post could make you feel a little better. My brother has been in jail for almost ten years most of those years were spent in California. He was recently transferred to Mississippi; for reasons I do not know yet, but is doing much better in Mississippi. He got in touch with me and has told me that he likes it better out there than in California. He told me that the guards treat the inmates like people not like convicts. He has even told me that he has a chance to get some kind of education going. He hasn't been having the problems that he was having in California. I know that not everyone's situation is the same but I got this information from someone that is dealing with the out-of-state change first hand.

All California inmates in auto accidents in addition to those inmates that are non violent SHOULD in FACT BE RELEASED! EVEN ON HOUSE ARREST. This is insanity that these human beings are being treated so horrendously. I am a decent, intelligent human being and a very, very sad mom. I WANT MY SON OUT OF PRISON!!!!! I will do anything and everything to make certain that MY SON IS FREED! Do the same. All of you. California prisons are barbaric and I don't want my son sent out of state. Join activist groups, support groups. Let's make a change. This IS AMERICA, ISN'T IT? Thanks for listening. Sadmom
