My son was sent to mississippi from california and I have not been able to find out any information regarding his well being. I have called the prison and spoke with the warden's secretary but I have yet to contact a councilor or any other representitive of the prison to find out information.

I just recd a call from my son who was moved from California to Arizona due to the overcrowding. He was moved over a year and a half ago. He was told that he will be moved again to another private prison. He mentioned Alaska, Mississippi or a fire camp in California.

I live in California and some of the articles I have been reading, seems as thou the citzen of that city (Tutwiler)think we want our children there. And they are ever so wrong.

If we get enough California parents together maybe we can fright the Governor to bring our children/love ones back home to us!

I know one thing I do not what my son down there working like a slave on anything.

This is amazing as I live in CA and you never hear of this in our newspapers of prisoners being moved from CA prisons to be housed elsewhere. This must be hard on families that want to visit their relatives in prison that are so far away. Does California have to pay for the expense of housing their prisoners to these other states or does the state that houses them have to bear the cost?

First of all, as an employee of the prison in Mississippi where these inmates are housed, I have heard several inmates say that they would rather do the rest of thier time in Mississippi because of better treatment than California staff. So believe me when I say, they are doing fine because they are not being mistreated in anyway.

Well look - the prison industry is the next big govt. pig to suck your tax money out.

They save govts. by cutting corners on worker pensions and busting unions.

Ahnold is in deep shit. California is running out of money fast. White people are being driven from Southern California and are moving to the Mountain states - Ahnold has to save money so he's outsourcing some of his prison population to save money.

Makes sense.

Either way - welcome to the humid freakhole of the country.

Wow, I was just shocked to hear the news about them moving inmates across states. We don't get that news in our state about our inmates. Does California have to pay Mississippi to house the inmates that are shipped there? I'm just asking, I have no inmate family members in any prison sytem, just wondering how it works.

Yolanda: Have any of you people looked at "Prisontalk online"? There is a lot of information there and might find some answers. Once you get on the site, If you go down the list, it will start listing the states in alphabet order and you can learn more about what prisons are in the state and information on them. Not sure if you will find what you want, but a lot of good information on it. You will need to register before you can post, but you might find someone who knows a little more about it on there. If not, there is a lot of support from others going through what you are.

My son was move to the Ms. prison and it had been on lock down since he got there, he told me that they feed them molded food, and that they only come out of there cell for 1 hr. and can not take a shower but every 5 days for 2 minute.. the guard will not asnwer any questions and when you call there know one answer the phones. My question is why would they seed inmates to a prison that stays on lock down, common sense will tell you it only makes the inmates worst..

Hawaii was the first to send inmates to Tutwiler prison and cancelled there contract with this prison, now calif. is the only prison sending inmates to MS. one prisoner died from an asthma attack because the guard refused to see what he wanted..

I am sorry you feel that way. I am an officer there and they do not work as slaves. Most of your love ones are working because they want to. Most of your live ones prefer here than CA because we do treat them with respect. Yes, it would be easier if family and friends were closer.Your love ones live better here than they would have in your state institution.

First of all, food in a prison is just like food you buy for your home. When you buy in the bulk you may have occassionally some bad apples in the bunch. And the food is prepared by humans. We tend to make mistakes often. If your loved ones received food that was not sutiable for eating, he should have alerted the officer. As for as the prison being on lockdown, it's for inmates as well as staff protection. The prison doesn't stay on lockdown always.

Jackie thank you for your comments but I disagree with some of your comments, Calif imates do not want to be in MS. and I do understand that being on lock down is for the safty of the staff & inmates but can you tell me how longgg they have been on lock down and what measurements are being taken to resolve this issue, I understand that the calif inmates is whats keeping you with a job! but know one has a answer for that question, first i hear maybe in April now I'm hearing we don't know, well who can give us the answer!!! This prison is so unorganized, maybe a new Warden is due, maybe Burl Cain from Angola State prison in LA. can run your prison since he has no crime in his prison & does a better job then your warden...This prison has had a bad reputation since 2004 and something need to be done so for you to say that our love ones is getting treated with respect maybe that's the way MS people thinks since it has been such a racist state since the begaining of time.. being locked in a cell 24 hr. a day is not being treated with respect....
