It's obvious the best choice for Sheriff is Magruder read his qualifications. Fugate doesn't have the right experience. An if you were to add Marks experience in with Fugates, it still wouldn't equal Magruders experience and qualifications. I mean the guy worked in Kansas City as a Police Officer for several years and is now fighting in Iraq. I had concerns he wouldn't be back, but did my research and found out he will be back in December so plenty of time to take office!! With all the stabbings, drugs and shootings going on of late, we need someone with his experience. Personally I like Mark but he is to much into politics to work in Law Enforcement. I'd love to see Mark run for the House Of Representatives, he would have my families vote!

Lol. I wouldn't vote for Fugate anyway. Make him hand out a copy of his job history & see how many times he got fired from all these jobs he claims "qualifies" him to serve as our sheriff. That would make it a 2 man race: Nichols vs Magruder. I'm voting for Magruder because its evident Nichols isn't doing a good enough job. It's not like Nichols hasn't had plenty of time to get something done. As for the person above thinking Magruder posted those comments under a fictitious name... I seriously doubt a man of his caliber lacks the ball sack to post his own name. If he can square off against Kansas city's criminals he isn't scared to post on his own behalf.

Are you kidding, Nichols has proved himself as a fantastic leader for our Sheriff dept. His reputation and charter impeccable and a his honesty is unmatched. If you want someone you can trust, vote Nichols. He gets my vote.

I'm going to have to vote Magruder can't over look his years of experience in a major city, we could benefit from that knowledge more so now then ever, with the shootings, stabbings and increased drug issues. I agree Mark has done well, but with changing times requires different experience. Mark has only work small areas, I feel our County can benefit from Magruder. Just my thought and my view, everyone is allowed there view. I'd also not talk poorly about anyone who votes for Mark, like I said he has done well. But just this year alone it's obvious we are starting to have shootings, stabbings an increased drug use.

Most of the stabbings and shootings are in the city limits.

That's like saying that the highway patrol cant pull you over on morley street! County has jurisdiction in the entire county.

Agree. Most people don't know but the Sheriffs Office has more power then the Police Department, in the grand view of things they are over the Police according to Missouri law. A sheriff should be making every effort to help fix the problem no matter if it's in towns or on a country road.

Look it up in the state of Missouri the Sheriff is the highest law enforcement official in the County over the head of the police department and over the highway patrol. Yes any law enforcement officer can enforce State Law, however in Missouri the Sheriff is top dog.

Mark wasn't the one who busted the Roe's. Not trying to back up that the police dept is all that, but they do the best they can when others are involved and there are toes to be watched out for. Mark Nichols is a nice guy. He is very friendly, in fact. But that doesn't change the fact that he doesn't run a tight ship. It doesn't necessarily make him a bad sheriff, but it makes it possible that someone else can be a better sheriff. He does fine, but I would like to see better than fine when it comes to the wide reach our county law enforcement has jurisdiction over. I would like to see more checkpoints, even during election time. Kinda ballsy to risk deaths due to drunk driving to save a few votes. You know, those offenders & their families will be mad and vote for Magruder or Fugate. Do you all believe that the county commissioners always give the deputies the best pay and hours? Who does the bargaining for those deputies? The sheriff is the one responsible for standing up for his employees. He's not only their boss, he's their version of a union rep. What happens when you don't have happy employees? Poor performance, that's what happens. That scares me! I want happy, top of the line, no bulls#itting ready-to-go deputies patrolling our county. Not overworked, underpaid, burnt out, "this is just a paycheck" attitude having crew. You all can get mad if you want, but I know enough about what goes on to have real compassion for these guys & gals and what they put up with. I wish people would quit making it a personal issue and try to look at the real picture.
