I'm glad they say it's the first one "caught". There have been mountain lions in Missouri for years, despite the negative claims of the MO Conservation Dept that there are/were none. We have at least two in southeast MO and comments directly on the news site of this story document many others having been seen throughout the state.

I have photos of 2 mountain lions resting in the woods near East Prairie, down in the bootheel. And I have seen mountain lions in Cape County and Bollinger County. To tell the public there are no breeding populations of mountain lions in Missouri, makes the MDOC look like idiots.

For years, I've been telling people that I've seen several black panthers in several different counties of Missouri. Funny thing about it, is that I've been lieing.

Too bad they didn't release in Jefferson City or Washington DC. The mountain lion could be well fed and do the rest of us a community service. Win/Win!

I saw bear scat in Western Bollinger County on several occasions, and mountain lion tracks once. That was over 10 years ago. I don't go anywhere in the woods without my .44 mag.
