Conservatives try to defend Bachmann's rhetoric
by: The Big E Fri Jan 14, 2011 at 18:00:00 PM CST -- Defending the indefensible is tough -- Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is under the spotlight nationally for her violent rhetoric. Many on the left are criticizing the tone that she and many others use. Paul Krugman is the latest in his column for the NY Times. Where's that toxic rhetoric coming from? Let's not make a false pretense of balance: it's coming, overwhelmingly, from the right. It's hard to imagine a Democratic member of Congress urging constituents to be "armed and dangerous" without being ostracized; but Representative Michele Bachmann, who did just that, is a rising star in the G.O.P. Bachmann's conservative defenders weren't going to let this slight pass. They called Krugman of all kinds of unmentionable things, but the only substantial accusation is he took her out of context. Her defenders aren't the sharpest spoons in the knife drawer. Here's the entire context: But you can get all the latest information on this event, this ... a must-go-to event with this Chris Horner. People will learn ... it will be fascinating. We met with Chris Horner last week, 20 members of Congress. It takes a lot to wow members of Congress after a while. This wowed them. And I am going to have materials for people when they leave. I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us, having a revolution every now and then is a good thing, and the people--we the people--are going to have to fight back hard if we're not going to lose our country. And I think this has the potential of changing the dynamic of freedom forever in the United States and that's why I want everyone to come out and hear. So go to bachmann.house.gov and you can get all the information. So wait -- your defense of Bachmann is that, in the context of urging her followers to be "armed and dangerous," she immediately proceeded to extol the benefits of armed revolution? This is supposed to be exculpatory? I think it's a perfect example of the right's hysteria directly legitimizing violence. http://www.mnprogressiveproject.com/ |

BIG Embellisher
Progressive socialist all charged up after meeting alfranken and all primed up to attack the great Representative Bachmann that won her seat over the comrades choice by double digets. I think ewe should take it up with the voters of the conservative 6 th district that do not recognize government dependency and the need for government support to survive. The nuclear families of the great 6th are self reliant and all families and children have the same last names. Social corruptors always get escorted out of the 6th. I dunno BIG Embellisher you may find the harvesting of dependentant socialists very few in the great independentant and conservative 6th district represented by the Most popular state representative in the honorable U.S Representative Michele Bachmann... Thanks for caring though but don't let the door hit ya in the arse. |

Bachmann supporting Iranian group State Dept labels as terrorist
by: The Big E Thu Jan 13, 2011 at 19:00:00 PM CST Ken Avidor over at Dump Bachmann found a gem concerning Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN). It appears she is providing material support for a terrorist organization. Or at least that the US State Department labels this group a terrorist organization. Specifically, Bachmann wants the People's Mujahideen Organisation of Iran (PMOI) removed from the list of terrorist organizations. However, this advocacy on PMOI's behalf is itself illegal. The relevent bit starts at 8:30 into the vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch ... Is this support for PMOI in the same vein as the Minneapolis residents who have been subpoenaed to appear in Chicago for providing material support to a terrorist organization? Or does the law apply differently to elected officials? And doesn't she often spew conspiracy theories about Democrats colluding with terrorists? Seems a wee bit hypocritical for her to now get busted providing material support for a terrorist organization. http://www.mnprogressiveproject.com/ |

Judged: 1 1 1 On his show today, right-wing talk radio host Rush Limbaugh accused the Democratic Party of lending its “full support” to Jared Loughner, the man accused of murdering six people, critically wounding Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, and injuring 14 others in Tucson this weekend. In response to calls for increased responsibility in political discourse, Limbaugh said the Democratic Party “is attempting to find anybody but [Loughner] to blame” and that Loughner “understands he's got a political party doing everything it can, plus a local sheriff doing everything they can to make sure he's not convicted of murder." Michael Keegan, President of People For the American Way, issued the following statement: “As people across the country grieve and reflect, Rush Limbaugh has accused an entire political party and a respected law enforcement officer of supporting a mass murderer. This offensive and irresponsible claim deserves to be met with harsh condemnation by Democrats and Republicans alike. “Many of us have called in recent days for the toning down of the irresponsible and dishonest rhetoric that has become pervasive in our political debate. Limbaugh’s ridiculous reaction to this tragedy is proof of the need for a return to responsibility.” http://www.pfaw.org/press-releases/2011/01/li... |

And in fact when you read that Constitution and the founding fathers, they intended this to stop tyranny. This is for us when our government becomes tyrannical... Manders: If we needed it at any time in history, it might be right now. Angle: Well it's to defend ourselves. And you know, I'm hoping that we're not getting to Second Amendment remedies. I hope the vote will be the cure for the Harry Reid problems." ------ so where the hell are you Sharon you cowardly POS? |

Have Bachmann & Palin Jumped the Shark?
Bachmann and Palin can't continue to play the victim card. Here Carlson tries to do it for them, as does O'Reilly. Right now Palin and Bachmann are using third party proxies to do their "I'm the victim" act, because if they show up to do it personally they come off as whiny and hypocritical. After all, Giffords is the victim. Christina Green is the victim. Other victims are still in the hospital. The contrast couldn't be any sharper. The old game won't work anymore. That's why they are staying away from the media. "I'm the poor victim" is the only game they have to play (along with the hate rhetoric). They are toast. Neither one has the ability to speak intelligently on substantive issues. The violent rhetoric/ rants against government was their only schtick. If they can't rebrand themselves they are done. Kaput. The mainstream will no longer listen to them ... they jumped the shark. The worst (for them) is that this isn't going to go away. The public will be following Gifford's recovery for months, and then there will be the lengthy court proceedings and prosecution of the shooter. This story will be in the headlines for many months to come. Bachmann and Palin have a big PR problem, and they need to rebrand themselves. Bachmann might be able to do it, but I think Palin is in complete denial (see her statement) and will become increasingly marginalized by the public and media. Bachmann is also losing her platform |

Following Obama's widely praised address at the memorial for the victims of the Tucson shooting, the right-wing media have nonetheless strained to find ways to attack him. Their attacks have included the presence of T-shirts at the event -- which were reportedly handed out by the university -- the "pep-rally" atmosphere, and the timing of Obama's speech, among other things.
Right-wing Media Invent Absurd Attacks On Obama's Memorial Speech Hoft Falsely Claims Obama "Fibbed" About Giffords "Opening Her Eyes For The First Time." In a January 13 post on his blog Gateway Pundit, blogger Jim Hoft linked to a cached article from the blog the Sonoran Chronicle, which misquoted Chief Trauma Surgeon Dr. Peter Rhee as having said in a press conference, "Giffords can open her eyes but because she is on a ventilator she can't speak." The Sonoran Chronicle post itself had been removed at the time of Hoft's posting. Yet, nonetheless, Hoft took the cached article as evidence that it "Looks Like Obama Fibbed About Giffords 'Opening Her Eyes for the First Time'" in his speech last night, and that it was a "very emotional moment" but "unfortunately it was not true." In fact, Rhee actually said in his January 9 press conference that Giffords "can't open her eyes at this point." From the press conference (emphasis added): RHEE: No, we can't get into too much more detail than what we already have. But I can tell you right now with the type of surgery, her eyes, she can't open her eyes at this point, mechanical standpoints, and she's also on the ventilator, so she can't speak at this time.[Gateway Pundit, 01/13/11; CNN, State of the Union With Candy Crowley, 01/09/11] Hoft: "They Couldn't Help It... Team Obama Hands Out T-Shirts at Pep Rally Memorial." In a January 12 Gateway Pundit post titled "They Couldn't Help It... Team Obama Hands Out T-Shirts at Pep Rally Memorial," Hoft wrote "Maybe it's something new? T-shirts at a pep rally memorial...Every memorial needs a special T-shirt. Doesn't it?" [Gateway Pundit, 01/12/11] Hoft: "It's A Pep Rally." In a January 12 Gateway Pundit post, Hoft wrote, "It's a pep rally...The screaming in the stands by the kids was a little annoying though. They need to discuss this at the next SEIU meeting." Hoft added that despite this, he felt it was "the best speech Obama has ever given." [Gateway Pundit, 01/12/11] Ace of Spades: "While I Have No Evidence [The T-Shirts Are] Obama's Fault I'm Sure He Is Just The Same." In a January 12 Ace of Spades post, Ace posted a picture of a volunteer laying the "Together We Thrive" T-shirts on the back of chairs and wrote "This has nothing to do with photo-ops. All memorial services and funerals have their own slogans and t-shirts these days. Didn't you know that?" Ace also claimed: Unfair: Actually, I don't have any evidence the t-shirts were put out by Obama's people. I suspect they were, but it could have been Brewer's people. It could also have been Giffords' family or supporters. For all I know Obama is just going along with this and might even have objected himself by saying, "T-shirts? Really?" But while I have no evidence it's Obama's fault I'm sure he is just the same. I learned that from the [mainstream media].[Ace of Spades HQ, 01/12/11] Read more at http://mediamatters.org/research/201101130012 |
