One can only hope that this would happen! Come on, Michigan, do the RIGHT thing for once and extend full and equal rights to GLBTs.

I agree. I'm thrilled to see such momentum in the cause or equal treatment under the law.

You do have full and equal rights. If you're referring to your "right" to exercise your sexual perversion, feel free to do so behind closed doors. Nobody is stopping you.

Pete, GLBTQ's do NOT "have full and equal rights". It is unfortunate that people have to live in fear of eviction, banishment from their families, being expelled, excommunicated, fired, harassed, beaten, etc., simply for being who they are.

I grew up in western MI, and it was NOT a gay-friendly place. The town I grew up in is known for being homophobic, but there are people working to change that.

Maybe if you'd keep your sexuality to yourself instead of advertising it, you wouldn't have to worry about such things. I love to go out and sleep with beautiful girls, but I can do that without having to announce it to the world.

Stop demanding that gay people announce it, and it will happen. Every time you ask someone what they did over the weekend, if they are married, if they will bring a date to any social function, you are demanding that they announce their sexuality.

Every time you tell an off color joke, you demand it. Every time someone says something hurtful about gay people, it's demanded.

Straight people demand such announcements constantly. It's exhausting trying to keep up with it.

The whole "coming out" thing never ends. If only straight people would stop assuming that everyone else is straight, life would be so much more relaxing.

No, it's silly.

I imagine that every gay person around you would be required to "announce", since, otherwise, your hatred would make things uncomfortable.

So you and Sneaky Pete also oppose wedding announcements and condemn the heterosexual couples when they publicly flaunt their sexuality?

And what about all those "My kid is an honor roll student" bumper stickers and the one that says, "I'm spending my children's inheritance.'?

Clearly all of those a public flaunting of sexuality.

Just as wearing a wedding ring is publicly flaunting your marriage status.

Heterosexuals don't parade down the streets saying, look at me, I'm straight. Those bumper stickers have absolutely nothing to do with flaunting gayness or straightness. Wedding announcements has nothing to do with parading around flaunting your sexuality. Get real Queer.
Straights DO do that. It's called "The St. Patrick's Day Parade" and the organizers of these parades SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDE non-straight people.

They're not parading because of their being straight. They're parading because of their nationality. They just don't want to turn it into a gay parade.
Actually, the organizers of these parades have publicly and specifically called it a Roman Catholic Parade, which is how they defend the exclusion of anyone who is not str8 because they claim that not being str8 violates Roman Catholic doctrine. And they specifically invite ALL nationalities, not just people who are Irish or who are of Irish ancestry.

So they don't want to turn it into a gay parade. Big deal. Regardless who's in it, it's not a Straight Pride Parade.
Sort of like a "NO MUDPEOPLE ALLOWED" parade isn't a White Pride parade?

thanks for explaining it so clearly.

It is a "Straight Pride Parade" because the Roman Catholic groups that sponsor those parades basically claim that is what it is, since they view being Roman catholic and being gay as incompatible, and they will not allow anyone who publicly identifies as gay to march in their parade.
