Was Al Capone's sister married to a man named Jennings? I think that is the Jennings house that you mention being torn down last year.

Al Capone did in fact have residences in Saint Joseph, Michigan. He owned homes on the Saint Joseph river with tunnels and 'trap doors'. It allowed him to evade the police by taking a boat to the river and then to Lake Michigan and back to Chicago. I was employed at Whitcomb Tower Retirement Home many years ago and there were elderly residents that recalled Al Capone in his hey day. One woman in particular had fond memories of him and said whenever he was in town he would pick her up with her sisters and they would attend mass together. A devout Catholic and family man, he respected the church and its sanctity. When I worked at Whitcomb Tower, I was given a tour of the upper penthouse apartments. They were inhabited by Al Capone when it was a Hotel. It was ideal as it afforded Al a panoramic view of the city and Lake Michigan. It was said he could see across the lake to Chicago and watch for his 'shipments' arriving by boat. I am entirely convinced that this is true as it was reported to me by a reliable source. In parting, as Al would say 'You can accomplish a lot more with a kind word and a gun, than just a kind word'. ;-)

I grew up practically next door to it, played in the buildings when i was a kid and the power lines are definitely less than 100 ft behind the garage and courts.
Also it burned down in 3 separate fires since i was a kid (im44). The last fire was a fire dept control burn.
I hear all kinds of stories (its popular round here) but I have never witnessed anything remotely paranormal out there. The old timers around here,(which r really hardcore, likely to shoot u for trespassing), say that it was definitely part of capones operation. Poker house, meetings, temp hide away, sex girls etc.
About a 1/4 mile in the woods behind my house there is a car of that era rusting away (mostly gone) trees grown up all around it, so it had to be there for awhile.

I personally went to the house in purgatory. We used to party out there in the 80's and you could tell the house was at one time beautiful. Huge mirrors and lots of carved woodwork. Really nice place. My friend's sister took a drape from there. Also, there were some bullet holes there. I am sure this was Al's place. They say it was there because it is about halfway between Chicago and Detroit. Detroit is about halfway between Jones and Canada. Hmmm...

He also had a house in paw paw michigan, I believe around three mile lake. The family that lives there has unearthed all kinds of things related to him. He used to use the house as a hide-away, it has tunnels underneath it, it's quite interesting. His mistress Flora was buried in Hawkshead Cemetery in South Haven.

Al Capone's sister did indeed have a house on Gull Road in Kalamazoo. East of Borgess Hospital. When they remodeled it they found copper pipes in basement that were not for the house plumbing, most likely for stills and hidden rooms and cubby holes.

Al Capone never owned property in his own name. He did frequent Michigan visiting with fellow Mobsters and Friends. Muhammed Ali's home in Berrien Springs is a 88 acre farm once owned by Charlotte Campagna the wife of Louis Campagna Al Capones bodyguard. A cottage in Leland Michigan that Capone was alleged to have stayed at was owned by an Attorney of Capone's. Capone stayed for a summer in Lansing Michigan while he was being investigated for a murder in Chicago. He stayed with Friends who moved from Chicago Heights Il.

There is an old hotel across the street from the river in South Haven that has trap doors, and a moving bookcase. There are unexplained walls in weird places. I wonder??? Are there any South Haven ties???? Does anyone know? I toured the hotel--was gonna buy it. Hotel Nichols
