This sequester was Obama's idea to begin with. Now he hopes to undo it by creating the maximum in public displeasure and inconvenience to force the Republican's hands.

I saw something the other day that said there were 54 users of Coleman A. Young airport in 2011 so that closing won't be much inconvenience.

When southwest came there in 80's, city kept promising to expand airport to accomodate large aircraft.never came to fruition. Southwest left years later which. began downward spiral ./I'm surprised this airport wasn't closed long ago

The same thing held back the airport that holds back the city now. A few people in a failing nearby neighborhood refused to move. City council was overwhelmed by a few boisterous attendees and did not have the gumption to decide in favor of the future. Also, there is a nearby cemetery there and relatives did not want planes flying over or to have their relatives moved. If the runway could have been extended, larger jets could land there and the entire area would have become prosperous. It might be easier to expand the site now, but the time and need has passed. Detroit missed the flight to the future. Now it's a race to the bottom.
