<quoted text>You are totally correct. I dont know why they continue to make SUVs when gas prices keep going up. I thought that the sale of SUVs have been on the decline for a while too.
Detroit is also dying because the area has REFUSED to diversify its economy and job loss after job loss has created this problem of people leaving by the droves. What's the result? It's rank sure has fallen and will continue to do so. San Jose, San Antonio, Indianapolis, Columbus, San Francisco, and Jacksonville are now larger cities and soon-to-be Austin and Charlotte will pass Detroit in the next few years too.
It's not just in Detroit either. It's affecting the rest of the state from Delphi in Saginaw, to formerly Buick in Flint to Olds in Lansing, etc. The entire state is losing.
My, oh my. What are Detroit's "leaders" going to do?
Maybe if education was the priority that Granholm preaches about we could diversify. As everyone goes broke from losing their jobs and paying higher taxes, education beyond highschool is seeming further and further away with tuition constantly on the rise. How about the housing burst too. Maybe if we werent so uneducated all these ridiculous mortgage loans wouldnt have burst the housing market which has exponetially ruined our economy with the auto industry and granholm taxing all our prospective jobs out of the state. But hay, we have casinos and all kinds of lotto for those who want to help support our schools by tempting the worst kind of addiction of all-gambling.
Its time to start demanding more for our state and until we learn how, expect more of the same.

What many of you don't seem to understand is that most of the old prison is already empty. Drive by and you will find it's falling apart.
The Parole Board is what keeps men and women in longer than they should be. They do this for two reasons; One is they are afraid of law suits; Two it's all about jobs.
If you think watching TV, and pumping iron, and reading books for years and years, and walking the yard for miles and miles is living large then you're full of shit.
Then when you get out no one wants to give you a job.

<quoted text>I definatly agree with most of what you said. Granholm inherited a huge problem that is decades old and cannot be solved by one Governor. I'm not a Democrat and I didnt vote for here either, but I think she has too often been the scapegoat for the state's severe slump.
Yes, I know those people losing their jobs will be in a tough situation. I honestly dont know what they can do. I have a BAchelors and MAsters Degree, so I can only see things from my point of view in job skills of course. I;m sure there's other jobs they can find. Maybe @ a prison in another state or another prison elsewhere in MI. I honestly dont know what to say about them.
It's difficult nonetheless.
Resinstate capital punishement, YES!
Swift executions, YES! It would save big bucks cuz you dont have to keep them locked up anymore.
Every criminal has a right to a fair trial--that constitutional. Period. However, I hate it when they allow appeal after appeal. They do it so the piece of crap attornies can keep getting paid.
Prisons being country clubs is NOT constitutional. The reason is due to political correctness. Prisons are for punishment and punishment only.
Alot of good points I agree with.
I understand that the prison is punishment but there over doing it with people who have child support and parol ...what about the more important things like drug dellers and people who are doing the killing and sexual things with kids ...theres more people in prison for child support and parol ...and because of this theres no room for other offenders ...take the low risk people and and put in the big timers ..and give those people other reasons like house arrest or somthing ....cause there could be people with child support not even being there fathers and the courts wont even give them D.N.A. TIME TO THINK ABOUT THE BIG THINDS CAUSE PEOPLE ARE DIE'N CAUSE THERES KILLERS OUT THERE CAUSE THERES NO ROOM FOR THEM IN PRISON CAUSE OF ALL THE MAN WHO ARE IN FOR OTHER THINGS LIKE PAROL OR CHILD SUPPORT

too Virginia, I strongly disagree with your comment that michigan should have capitol punishment. There are so many innocent ppl in our prison system and not only in Michigan. Why kill someone when They are innocent??? Besides who are we to play GOD???? That is not our job. Our jobs are to be loving and forgiving as the Bible states. AMEN!!! I myself done 44 years for something that did not require a prison sentence when he pulled a 12- gauge on me and ordered me from my car. I guess I should not have protected my self. Yes we do need some type of prison system for the few hundred who truely deserve it, but not death. You are worried about your tax dollars then WE all need to come together to stop all of the frivelous spending that the ENTIRE GOVERNMENT wastes each and everyday. This will never happen because too many ppl are afraid of the Goverment and thereown way of life to stand up. I hope I have not offended you.

So if you’re telling me Jackson Prison is self supporting, why would Granholm be looking to close it?
JACKSON PRISON is uninhabitable for humans, that place is the worlds largest walled prison and has been decaying for years i say close it burn it down to the ground it will then take another 10years cleaning up the ground soil

why are the sentencing guidelines in michigan so terrible? i am a firm beleiver in you reap what you sow but this is a miscarriage of justice! people who havent done anything violent should not be punished as severely as they have been. let those prisoners go! those who have firearm charges or rape charges or murderers should of course be dealt with. our economy cannot support this anymore. lock up violent offenders and free the rest!michigan will be better off! that would be a start!

yes closeing prisons doesn't help because jobs are lost. If a inmate has less then a year, and is elligible for a time cut give it to him, also they have to be assigned to the assualtive offender class for six months before release, so cut the class to three months, cut out the in person visit of the parole board to save money because they are going home. also if they served there time they have rights. You will re-think capital punishment when one of your's gets in trouble

Hey guys, just a quick invite to a forum I created for my dad. http://www.andysbeef.com . I'm going to surprise him with it in a few days.

He lives in rural Michigan, has a vintage Harley, loves to argue politics and auto stuff (Ford retiree, an engineer to boot), he likes boats, NASCAR and guns. Has a CCW "cause he can". Loves to hate Granholm and has a STRONG political view. He's a daily "poster" and fun to argue and chat with. I'm the site admin so you can send me any suggestions or complaints. The forum is brand new and I am looking to make it a cool place to sound off!

I have no sympathy for those who have been guilty of crimes. even if it were one of mine. i turned one of mine in so don't go there lady.if one of mine does the crime them do the time' even if that means meeting your maker. as for jackson "stinking" of urine and body odor ...whose piss'n b.o. is it? they (inmates) throw their body wastes at the guards ect. So Yes to capital executions for certain crimes involving the death of others.

To All of you that want to talk badly about Michigan and laugh about the fact that the auto industry is on the brink of disaster:
Michigan may be in trouble and you may be laughing now but the fact of the matter is that the Auto Industry is in trouble which has immediate effect on Michigan. If you are stupid enough to think that because you live in another state that it will all be peaches and cream for you then you are sadly mistaken. Laugh now but you won't laugh for long!
As for the Michigan Prison system and the rehabilitation/reentry programs that don't work for a large percentage of prisoner. I just don't care about those criminals who are repeat offenders. Throw them into the deapest darkest holes you can find 3 squares a day and a rope to do the job themselves when they relize they will never see the light of day again. Why should they get more spent on them than a child in the public school system. Let's spend that money on children for whom there is hope for before it is too late and we have produced more adults that don't have an education to be able to support themselves and therefore become criminals too.
Screw the repeat offenders!

I don't thinking closing prisons is the answer,(never has been never will be)you still either have to care for them or still pay for some other state to take care of them! They only a handful of all the prisoners that get out will stay out many will be right back either doing hte same crime or a worse one......For the one who wrote that gaurds are less skilled oviously has no idea what they go through they do have college education you don't just walk in and get the job!!!!!!!!!
I think the people in goverment should lose their jobs or take a pay cut thye should make min, wadge just like most of the people here in the state....
Stop blaming other people and step up and take the blame stop acting like you are 2......
