Cape Cod CLC - CVEC
Barnstable County Appendage of Duplicates
It seems you've been outed in public by Mr. Larry Cole, CVEC Director, and self-styled angry voice of reason -- again.
Those of you who are already familiar with Mr. Cole will find nothing new in these accusations as he has been making similar pronouncements for the past several years. Those of you who are encountering Mr. Cole for the first time may take a moment to appreciate that his outlook is typical of most members of the respective boards of both CLC and CVEC.
According to Mr. Cole (and the boards of CLC and CVEC -- and even some members of the Assemblage of Duplicates), the concerns about openness, transparency and accountability regarding the governance and finances of CLC and CVEC are all "baloney." The Assemblage of Duplicates has been hypnotized by anti-wind-turbine wackos who are carrying on a vendetta against CLC and CVEC for attempting to install wind turbines in Brewster and Harwich -- three and four years ago.
According to Mr. Cole, the petty Duplicates in the Assemblage have been susceptible to these specious claims because they are jealous of the fact that the budget of the Cape Light Compact is bigger than the budget of Barnstable County.
Isn't it fitting that the first line of Mr. Cole's rebuttal is completely false -- yet another example of CLC and CVEC directors' fanatical belief in the power of denial.
Mr. Cole says that it is "baloney" to believe that CLC has been funding CVEC with CLC ratepayers' money. Well, if it isn't ratepayers' money that CLC is using to fund CVEC, whose money is it?
What is more distressing is that to judge from the recent vote in the Assembly and from the remarks of at least one of the Delegates, some elected officials actually seem to have embraced Mr. Cole's line of "reasoning."
In my view, it is those who carry water for the Larry Coles of the world, who speak of "ulterior motives" and who publicly degrade well-meaning critics who meticulously document the reasons for their concerns of being "Tools of the oil and gas interests," without an ounce of justification for making such defamatory accusations, who are pandering to the wackos.
Assembly of Duplicates pandering to 'wackos'
December 17, 2013
Baloney is the polite word to describe the assertion that the Cape Light Compact has been funding the Cape & Vineyard Electric Cooperative with ratepayers' money. There are no captive ratepayers for electricity on Cape Cod. The only monopoly is that of the distribution company that transports power.
There are four retail suppliers of electricity to choose from, just as there are four major supermarkets. And just as when you pass through the checkout with your paid-for groceries, and it's not your money anymore, when you use electricity and pay for it, it's not your money anymore.
The contrary claim by the anti-wind-turbine 'wackos' who are carrying on a vendetta against CLC and CVEC because CVEC funded the Brewster and Harwich wind turbine projects is nonsense. Moreover, that the very group who caused the CVEC money to be wasted, and by their ongoing harassment continue to do so, is complaining about how CLC money is spent is the height of hypocrisy. That the Barnstable County Appendage of Duplicates is pandering to such people is further evidence of their not having enough meaningful work to do to justify their existence and of their jealousy of CLC having a $25 million state-mandated energy efficiency program to manage, which they have no jurisdiction over.
