Taking money from a group of people, smokers, to give to another group of people, T riders, doesn't make any sense. Smoking is banned on public transportation. Let people that use public transportation pay for it.
The numbers say that only 16% of Massachusetts residents smoke. Attacking 16% of the people for a state service is just wrong.

I think they've gone too far this time. I quit the day after the hike. I said enough is enough and no way will I pay $3500 a year for cigarettes. Anybody that does is an idiot. People will either quit or just go to NH. People WILL smuggle them in and sell them in a black market just like what's been happening in NY. The state will end up losing tax revenue in the end because they got so greedy. Too bad it was easier to screw the smokers and raise the gas tax rather than go after all those welfare cheats.
