After more than 40 years of oblivion, is the cougar - or panther - making a comeback in northwestern Louisiana? The odds are still very much against it, but there is at least one cougar prowling Natchitoches ...

a panther is a cougar is a catamount is a mountain lion is a ... and at the end of the day it's a PUMA. Biologist don't believe they come in black because no one has ever, EVER, killed, captured, or found a dead one lying around AND they cannot find that there is any genetic evidence that makes a "black" cougar possible. I don't know, maybe they've overlooked something, but until someone bags one, the only logical explanation is either jaguars - but then you would be seeing a multitude of the spotted variety - or a combination of dark brown pumas/poor lighting/wishful thinking.

There's 1 in coushatta on my property and I got a video of it prowling around...I was in AWE when I saw it, its tail HANGS DOWN. Definitely not a bobcat. Its a BIG cougar whatever its feeding on is working.

I just heard the strangest sound coming from the woods near my house. Does anyone have any sound clips of large undomesticated cats? Cougars, panthers, etc?

It's entirely possible that you only heard a bobcat. It could have even been an owl, skunk, or raccoon. All of those animals can sound really strange at times. Just don't tell any of the paranormal society folks around here. They'll try to convince you there are ghosts or aliens out in those woods. IMHO, they need to lay off the weed.

People everywhere say they have seen a black cat, so there must be 500-700 of them right? But still they never seem to show up any where on camera or at the taxidermy office. Cougars are hunted as a game animal in many states and NEVER has there been a black one killed. Do they only live here in La where it is illegal to kill them? That seems to be too convienient.
lets stop the confusion. the tan cats seen in louisiana are western moutain lions who migrated east due to loss of habitat. the black cats which were once plentiful from eastern texas through louisiana all the way to florida and georgia from the early 1900s on back are considered extinct. although they were probably never really extinct. these cats when in places like south america where they exist in fairly high numbers are rarely seen even by wildlife biologist who search for them, unless trapped. if these black panthers are being seen they probably are making a comeback and exist in higher numbers than wildlife biologist care to admit. often times scientists stick to popular opinion until there is overwhelming evidence that proves them wrong. in the mean time those of us who see these cats with our own eyes know they exist and dont have to wait for official anouncements from scientists to do so.

When they weigh 300lbs, a cougar is pretty easy to bang. They don't even need the two legs you referenced. This might also explain why so many of them have three children. They don't stop banging deadbeats who can't take care of their fatherly responsibilities.

No. The definition of a real cougar implies hotness and what you've been sticking your willie into is just wet and disgusting. You might want to get yourself tested at a nearby clinic. Seriously.

Now, if you're done being a pervert, this thread is about something else entirely.

I live in the same area as the cougar sighting_ I almost hit a cat with my car when we first moved their. He was black, larger than a dog, had a very long tail, and looked very much like black panthers seen on tv. Can anyone tell me what it was if there are no such thing as black panthers-trust me it was not big foot
I've seen the exact same thing on the highway leading into Mooringsport from Highway 1. Your description is "exactly" what I saw. It ran across the road in front of me. This wasn't Bigfoot either. This was only a few months back. Others in the area also claim to have seen a black one.

I have seen a picture at a mans house who lives outside Marthaville of a large black cat. Likely a black panther. The picture was taken nearly 20 years ago though.

Cougars? Natchitoches Parish has plenty of them--just check them out on the running path on the NSU campus!!! I guess the "pickins" are pretty good over there...
