What a story
James Byron Noble

My father is named James Henry Noble, first off let me say that in eastern kentucky things are'nt always what they seem.My father was District judge in Breathitt, Wolfe, and I believe Clay counties. He was arrested and later convicted of Obstruction of Justice! He was one of nine individuals, along with Marion "Butch" Cambell, during an investigation by the F.B.I. called "Operation Leviticus".He was a very goog father to two lovely children, don't get me wrong i'm sure he wasn't perfect, I believe my father happened to know, and possibly befriend shady characters.I don't know much but those gentlemen, had connections and money.People in power are good but rememember it's all good ole boy politic's even today! Anyone who could possible help my plight to find out the real truth about those years in the late seventies and early eighties. Thanks

Yes, "Butch" Campbell was the guy implicated by an undercover FBI coke smuggler ,extorting 1 million for landing rights at a Morgan County Airport with Campbell, the county judge exe. and the county sherriff getting $5000 ea. weekly for the privilege, or was that HENRY VANCE?
The FBI originally thought they were getting coal money.
All this took place about the time much of eastern Kentucky's finest, sherriffs, police cheifs , district judges. county judge exes. and troopers were rounded up and charged in "OPERATION LEVITICUS".
Lester Burns a state senator and former state trooper even was convicted for drug trafficing and had to pay 175 thou. that his client had paid him in a murder conviction.
Even the Fayette Co. Sherriff Taulbee was convicted of drug trafficing. A Fayette Co. Cop, a Murphy was convicted of killing his wife along with drug conviction.
My memory just isn't good anymore, but I remember lots of sherriffs, judges and troopers from eastern and central Kentucky that kept the drug enforcement people busy from the mid-70s to late 80s.
Can anyone clear up my memory on these characters?
Was Taulbee convicted of cocaine trafficking? This is around 1986 by some internet accounts? That's after the Bluegrass Conspiracy had gotten a strong foothold. Wasn't Taulbee's successor's daughter, a prison guard, convicted of prison abuse recently? Did this have anything to do with Boptrot or did that come later?

helicopters my friends helicopters.......i know people that used to live on mcgee and have actually partied at the very spot sally denton referred to as triad when i was younger in highschool. it's not only palisades over the river as a previous poster implied.....it's woods with a 4/5 acre opening in the middle. there are cliffs and a waterfall as well and danny murphy still lived next door at that time. i always imagined helicoptors throwing packages out for someone else to pick up

Back then around the 80's was a hard time and people did what they had to do to get by. My mother was born in 60's .Thats still no excuse as to what stupied people did back then and i no what people are going to say. Either they are going to knock it or agree which one way or another i dont care. what happend to people and that young lady was wrong and the people that are still living out there and no what happend to her are no better then a piece of dirt.... and to the person that calles them self TRUCKER you are an low down self sentered ass hole and even if you where telling the truth of knowing what happened and if she is alive i hope to God you get back what you get.... if the family members see this may God be with you and im truly sorry for your loss and i also hope for you one day you get closer. And just to add to all the big time drugies back at that time, i know there are some still alive one qestion are you happy with knowing how you got as far as you did or as of still to this day that you may have killed some one or hrut some body in order to get what you had or haave???? thats sad that you couldnt bare to have lived a hard and made good money in stead of what is knowen as dirty money.but some of you all i bet ae paying the price now.... long term drug use brings nothing but more pain and hurt and sorrow...
Good Lord girl! What, if any, school did you go to??? If that is the best education that KY. offers, no wonder we are called hillbillys! Your grammar, spelling, and use of (or lack thereof) the English language is nothing short of atrocious! You say you are 19, but my 2 year old writes better than you. Do yourself a favor. Reeducate yourself, starting with 2nd grade books.....

Sad what years of illegal drugs, corruption, criminal organizations and power/wealth in the hands of a few can do to good people. One would think this banana republic could exist only in a third world country. The children are dying, desperate adults struggling with addiction and behavior issues; abuse and incarceration is rampant. Who would ever have thought this could happen in America?

And who can understand how and why, with law enforcement and a federal government, it's gone on for so long?

I grew up nearby. We lived in a house on McGee Lane. My grandfather owns the land @ Crenshaw and McGee.
Mickey from PA wrote:
Lawdog & Guffman: The property you refer to is
at the end of McGee Lane. It was called "The Triad" in Denton's book. Its is west of the Camp Nelson Bridge about 1 mile down stream at the top of the rock cliffs. No landing strip either. The property off Sugar Creek near the lock was Mike Kelly's farm. It now has a lodge and the road is called Kelly Lane.

The U.S. Postal Inspection service had jurisdiction and handled the case. As I remember it, there were some KSP bomb squad guys around and some A.T.F.
Not sure if the Postal inspectors have their on crime scene people or cooperated with local resources etc. But, I saw all three (Postal, KSP, ATF) on site
The Vanpac bombing was in 1989. It was a mail bombing killing Judge Vance in Alabama and some others in Georgia were targeted. The same FBI officer (Birmingham's Stephen Brannan) who investigated the Vanpac bombings was involved in the arrest and incarceration of Kentucky's Chuck Hayes, 1998.(Chalmer Hayes)

One guy, Moody, was blamed and incarcerated for the killing of Judge Vance and the plot to kill others.

Don't know if Alabama's Vance is any kin to the Kentucky Bluegrass Conspiracy Vance.... but Judge Vance in Alabama had an assistant named Don Siegelman who just recently was released from prison, after what news accounts have said was a wrongful conviction and politically motivated prosecution of the former Governor, Don Siegelman of Alabama.

Kentucky's Chuck Hayes had been involved with the Promis software and Mena, Arkansas cocaine situation and knew quite a bit about it. Gatewood Galbraith was his attorney. Hayes was sent to prison, got released, 2005 and was marched right back in with accusations he was plotting more trouble from inside.

So then another mail bombing was of a guy arrested named Ortloff out in Arizona who landed in prison with former prosecutor Fred Tokars of Atlanta.

Tokars contracted his wife's murder, she was killed in the presence of her two little boys in her car, her blood splattering her children. Tokars was eventually sent to prison, and got a confession out of Ortloff and got into the witness protection program.

Tokars wife had found out about her husband's cocaine dealings among other things so he had her killed.

It's a small world considering BGC Bradley Bryant had businesses in Birmingham, Alabama with Arizona addresses, and elsewhere, and some BGC connections were based in Savannah, Georgia, with Drew's plane heading back from Georgia.

Real small world considering a long-time federal judge (Jack Camp) in Georgia just got busted with drugs and a prostitute. How often does that happen?

Smaller world to know FBI's Thurman was the investigator in the Ortloff mail bombing and also in the Vanpac mail bombing among many other bombings, including Lockerbie, Beirut, WTC etc...

Drugs, bombs and murder. Where does it all come from?

Kentuckian: As it was a judge (Vance), maybe the FBI had jurisdiction over the postal inspection. Not sure...

In the Richmond, Kentucky bombing, I saw no FBI agents there, was never questioned by an FBI agent and heard no mention of the FBI at anytime....

does anyone remember who the state police commisioner was, at the time?
Neil welch, former FBI was commissioner of KSP. I understood they got him out of there as J YB thought Welch was playing double agent or working for the FBI at the time. I understood there was a Campbell faction- anti Ross and anti welch, it happens, that helped get Welch kicked out. Campbell then took over KSP. not sure what got Campbell out of the commissioners job, most like change of governor. he then went back to Morehead as post commander there until he was arrested and later faced trial with a hung jury over alleged taking money to - whatever, something related to drugs..like to close his eyes to what was going on or something. He left being commissioner with a bad taste..hard to tumble down off the mountain and have to work under people you were once over. He was a friend of Joe Famularo as I recall. I don't know how close but I had seen them together?

I have read the BGC three times, and each time I seem to stumble upon something new. I would like to see the remains of the location referred to as "Triad". Does anyone know what is is left of this place and if anyone currently owns the property? Any information would be appreciated. Stay Safe Guys.

Ella Ritchy Flynn is my mother's first cousin, and as far as I know she and Bob are both still alive. Everyone in the family knows that Canan, Bizzack and the Maddens all know what happened to Melanie and are responsible for her death. When I lived in the Bluegrass I was amazed at how many people I knew or came to know who were involved in this case. Ella Ritchey will never give up hope that Melanie is alive. I think I need to read BGC again as it has been a while. It's very interesting to see how many people are still interested in this case.

Amen to that. Ella Richey stays in contact with one of my aunts, since the Flynns are related to my family through Bobby's mother. She has never given up hope.

Most of you folks don't realize that there is an expatriated Western Kentuckian living in Soth America. He's a multi- billionaire and he's kept a house in Kentucky all these years. What's the tie to the BGC? Well, law enforcement attempted to bust him at the exact same time in Kentucky as the BGC. He had the same m.o. as those in the BGC. He used grass strips and cops to transport his stuff. The amount and types of corporations this guy owns is mind boggling. Forgot to mention, his kids lived in Lex when all of this started too.
