I myself am not a fan of Justified at all.
One reason is that they portray Harlan County natives as. Stupid, toothless, inbred, murderers, who have no idea as how to dress.
But I could live with that if the show was entertaining. I just dont think it is very well written. I watched a few episodes and just did not find anything in it that was interesting enough to entice me to continue watching.
However I did enjoy the character Mags Bennett. Because I think we all know that she was very loosely based on Mag Baily. And even if she wasn't she was a great character. And the actress who portrayed her did an excellent job.
All shows and movies Inaccurately depict the locations in which they are filmed. I have been to Harlan and it reminds me of West Virginia Appalachia. The residents of gene-pool deprived Harlan should embrace the attention. Also, you dislike Justified because you do not understand the beautifully nuanced and complex characters or the unorthodox relationship Rayland has with Boyd. Furthermore, the show portrays citizens as street-wise and savvy and the true criminals like Boyd and Wynn Duffy are cold, calculating and highly intelligent. And Rayland is one of the best new characters on television. But, anyone who thinks they are hard, come to Richmond, VA and I'll introduce you to our thousand strong MS-13 gang contingent or some of the ice-in-their-veins, crips or bloods who live in all of our ten main ghettos. They do not kill very often. They prefer to cripple people for life.

HA!

I do understand the show very well and thats one reason i do not like the show. It seems to me that the show just simply lays there. It seems to me that you are the one who does note recognize well written material when you see it. And Of course I understand fully that no show is 100% accurate in their portrayals of the subject matter in question. But they should at least make some attempt to be a little more accurate.

And as fer yer Crips and MS-13. HA HA HA! Don't make me laugh. The only time they APPEAR to be so tough is when they are in their own element. You know in neighborhoods where they out number every other entity by about a hundred to one. But put some of those crips and MS-13 members back in one of these "Hollers" And watch what they do when one of these "Good ole Boys" slap a 12 gage in their face! Of course they're tough and cruel as long as the odds are in their favor. But if they came around Harlan trying to bully the people they would find out what toughness is all about. Harlan people are very peaceful until you get 'em riled up. You're talking about people who have stood up to machine gun nest, overwhelming numbers and even the national guard.

Has anyone seen the movie "A Perfect Getaway"? Timothy Olyphant who plays Rayland is in it along with the woman who plays Raylands wife (or ex wife) on Justified. It's really good, Olyphant plays a leader of a special ops army unit on vacation with his girlfriend and a serial killer is loose. It's very good. Anyway, I love "Justified". It's one of my favorite tv shows, along with "The Walking Dead". At least people of southeastern Ky are portrayed as having indoor plumbing, unlike many programs. Honestly though, some of those characters look so suthentic, I could swear they picked them up off the street. And you have to admit, they can read and their vocabulary and grammer is really good. lol. So, not quite as stereotyped as some other movies, shows, etc.

I see another actor (Gerald McRainey) from Deadwood has appeared on Justified now. I see they just killed off another Deadwood alumnus too.

I like Justified, even though it's filmed in California. Last night they were in a stand of Ponderosa Pine trees! And of course Lexington is just a hop skip and a jump from Harlan!

Maybe you folks will get some tourists from this show?

Justified is a criminal procedural show. Raylan is a lawman. So the people he mostly comes into contact with are criminals. I don't think the writers and producers are suggesting that everyone in Harlan is a stupid criminal.
There are good and bad people in every town. Smart and stupid too.
Kind of reminds me of Harlan in the 70's
