Gay Baptist wedding in Ky.

David Bannister Jr., 29, and Steven Carr, 25, are to be married next May at Highland Baptist Church, which will break with most churches in its denomination by performing its first gay marriage ceremony.

"What Highland is really doing is what churches do on important issues," he said. "They're taking a stand in order to influence their community and move their community in a certain direction."

Anyone want to discuss the 1st amendment with respect to marriage equality?

Yes, it's a sickness alright. But it's only temporary. One day in the future the tide will turn and the public will hold homosexuals in more contempt than they ever have in the past.

Announced for May 2015.

Their local bakery won't do the wedding cake because that's too far in advance to take a deposit and plan for.

Someday, you homophobes are going to have a law passed that infringes on your right to happiness. You pick out scripture to support what and how you see it.
Galileo told the church that the earth was not the center of the universe, that was received with the same distain then as gay marriage today. But now all you good church people say the earth goes around the sun. Yet your bible says different.
Gay is not a sickness, your ignorance is the sickness. And for the record, I'm straight and proud.

The Bible says no such thing. It was indeed a Catholic Church doctrine (based on previous scientific claims which held that the Earth was the center) that Galileo was fighting against but nowhere in the Bible does it say the earth is the center of the universe and the sun goes around it.

It does however, say this:
----------
Genesis
18 Then the Lord God said,“It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for[e] him.” 19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed[f] every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam[g] there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made[h] into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said,

“This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.”[i]

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
----------
Matthew
4 He answered,“Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said,‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?
----------

So this church will be performing a "wedding", in which no scripture can be read pertaining to the institution of marriage...or if they do that will be fairly awkward. It will be a "wedding" without a bride and groom, and no husband and wife after the ceremony is completed.

.... I'd see the day when any Baptist Church would break away from the clutches of the SBC and do the right thing.

20 years too long, but at least they are doing the right thing now and will pave the way to make life better for all people in Kentucky.

For whatever you do for the oppressed eventually leads to freedoms for the rest.

There is hope for Kentucky to join the ranks of the enlightened.
