To Tazebell, 90% of wild ginseng is shipped to Asia( beliefs & practices ). Cultivated seng is what you see in products.

Wonder what they make on it at their end. Much more than the $300/# I bet.

Think there will be a shortage of ginseng in the foreseeable future with continued practices of logging, clearing, mountain top mining? There's not much residential building or commercial developments going on here. Are you in Kentucky? Is the supply there affected by clearing, environmental damage?

What you are looking for is the root, yes? You dig it up? What is above ground is just leaves that die back in winter? How does it spread - underground tubers? Sorry I realize I should google it, but I like to listen to people tell me there first hand experience.

thanks.

The first thing to find is the top, then dig about 6 inches away from the stem that comes out of the ground.
It spreads from the seeds that is on top/center of the leaves.
If you want to see some real good pictures go to themidwesthunter.com and wildgrown.com .

Thanks Illinois hunter! The wildgrown site is very informative. Now, I have to get my eyes open and see if I can find some come spring. Have you ever thought of doing that "grow your own" like that site talks about?

Don't get caught digging before season. A couple guys got caught here close to me and they got into big dodo. Season opens here in Illinois in Sept to last day in Oct.

Yes get seed ordered and plant about 2oz a year in a woods my aunt lives in every year. The main thing is find a woods no one knows it is there or plant in a woods you know the people and work out a deal with them - they let you plant they watch it and you split. That is what my aunt and I do. You can go 60/40 or 70/30. I like 50/50 because they own the woods and it is my aunt.

I called 4 buyers today. Will list what they was paying about 2 weeks ago to what they are paying now
1] was 200 now 260
2] was not buying now 250
3] was not buying now 280
4] was not buying now 300

Also stone if you go to the link above wildgrown.com , then about 1/2 way down you will see where it says dealers and click on see more then click on Illinois and it will show buyers. Then start to call the ones close to you.

I did a search on google about what you are asking but never found what I wanted. Now if you go to the dealers here in Illinois, at wild grown you will see one called china express. I have never called them but you might try. They may have the right paper work to come to you to buy yours or buy all yours and everyone you know. I don't know about your law about going over state line to sell, here we can't. Let me know what you find out.

I talked to a buyer in russell co. ky. He said the asian markets are not buying right now. Thats why everybody's having to hold on to their seng. Said the market should open up soon.

I checked with my buyer today in whitleyville tn. and he is not even buying right now. He is waiting on approval from his buyers as I understood him. He was hoping maybe in a few days but said it could be a couple months.
