Well, if you are ever in SE KY I invite you to visit our center. I will show you around and I think you will at least say that not ALL Job Corps are a waste of time.

I will do that, I am in a position that allows me to visit prisons, jails, reform schools and many other correctional or rehabilitation facilities. I would enjoy see what the difference is between different Job Corps.

Looks like an excellent program for those who can get into it. A clean cut white male stands less of a chance. Each Job Corp program (if white) is only as good as those doing the admissions work. I was shocked at what appeared to be (appeared for I wouldlike to think otherwise.. please this is not happening) reverse discrimination. Ouch.
Very sad commentary of the times, and for someone who is drug free, white and badly in need this would have been a great new start.

when i sent my son there they made it seem like it was a good place but they do have a drug and alcohol problem and my son was only there a month and he was accused of stealing someones dope from another dorm room and when he tried to tell it was not him they threaten him and 2 boys over 18 jumped my 17 year old. he told 3 AR's about it and they did nothing so i drove down on a sunday and got my son and now looking into sueing the school for the lack of safety of my son....Job corp said they were going to investagate it but i give them a week to do something about it and if not than i will see what my legal rights are...

What's going on with job corp now? I've heard they've had a lot of changes over the past two years.
I think it at least keeps kids off the streets, and some do very well.

I guess the job Corp could be seen as good for the locals. But did you know that they ship kids in from out of state that is one strike away from federal prison? They say it's to "help" them. All it does is hurt the community

I can't speak for every Job Corps campus. I can only give you my experiences I collected while I was there.
I finished the program in 1994. Granted, that was a long time ago, yet I still hold true to the values learned during my experience.
At that time ROWAN TORREY was the Center Director. He was like a second father to a lot of us that came to Earle C. Clements to find out who we were and who we would be.
He was a no bull-shit type of man. He looked out for all his students.(And I do mean ALL!) While he was the Center Director during my 2 years there, that center ran like your mom and dads home would. A father figure that broke things done for you instead of turning his back and washing his hands of you. He became the centers father figure in full.
Mr. Torrey,(or Dad, as some of us called him even though he didnt want us to) walked his campus. ate lunch with the students, help us personally with our issues or adjustment problems, came to the dorms to se how things were for us. I don't know what has happened on Earle C. since I finished the program, but apparently Mr. Rowan Torrey is no longer the Center Director if all this is going on.
I got married while on Earle C. April 14th, 1994. Mr. Torrey was the one who introduced us. We are still married and going strong 16 years later!
Take a close look at theis, the Job Corps Program works, if you want it.
An education is worth going into Job Corps and doing what you need to do excell forward positively in life.
Maybe if these other campuses had more directors like Mr. Torrey, there would be this much violence on these campuses now.
Think about it...

I love the people that assume what Job Corps is about. Do you know that many of these young people come to the Centers with their High School Diploma already? Many cannot afford college yet and do not have a certification in a skilled trade. For example: We had a student that came to center who went to the University of Maryland for a couple years. He could no longer afford to go there so he opted for the Job Corps to learn a trade. He did awesome at our center and was the Student Government President, Dormitory President and was selected to attend advance automotive training in Utah. This is just one of 100s of examples. It is not a bunch of F!@# ups like many of you think. These are Americans like you and I that deserve another chance. It is amazing when they are shown disccipline, love, and a show of worth what they can accomplish. Like our class graduation song says...That's what Faith can do...When the world tells you that you can't, FAITH will tell you that you CAN! God Bless all of our students!

I don't know what Job Corps your daughter goes to, but there are really good people at Frenchburg Job Corps, everyone who works at a Job Corps has to go through a very intensive Federal back ground check that takes months to complete, if you have been convicted of anything or if your credit is really bad or anything at all you cannot work there. So there are no criminals or people with questionable backgrounds working at ANY Job Corps!
what about the instructor that worked there about 5 years ago that took students home with him?

Yes, you may bring cell phones to our center. You are not allowed to have them during the duty day because too many students abuse their usage. If caught with the phones normally we confiscate them, give them to our center standards officer, and then he will give them to the dormitory staff where you normally will have to sign it in and out when you want to use it. But, the short answer would be yes, you are allowed to have cell phones on our center.
