This was a good decision taken by the kansas state government of labour.This will surely reduce unemployability in thier state.

So where are these so-called debit cards? I haven't received mine & I always get my checks on Wednesday.

Likewise I always used to receive my dispersement on Wednesday but haven't received it yet. The phone lines to the UI office are jambed,

I got mine now try to get your money,,,,,,,those of you like me that already have checking accts......this is so fun I was on the phone all day yesterday and could not get to a live person at UI.......calling every 15 minutes from 9am to 5pm....at nearly midnite I got thru to a supposed 24hr customer help line at Citi Bank....the nearest Citi bank branch or atm is in ST LOUIS.....every atm I went charges a fee because theses cards are out of net work......
I understand that even Bank of America is not in every little village in KS but at least it would have been an in state bank.

Why didn;t they just ask us for our checking account numbers and do direct deposit???

Citi bank will transfer from card to checking acct but it could take upto another 5 days, can you be without your money for another 5 days every week??

I went to KAKE news website to leave comments on the story.....

We need to band together to get this either back to paper checkd or direct deposits directly from the state treasury department.....they could do it it they just would.

KAKE NEWS used to have a sprt of the news called KAKE on yourside....if you were being "screwed" they would investigate to determine who was in the right.....

and leave your comments about this it could very well be a way for us to show the state that there may be only 25K of us right now but the aircrafters have not been laid off yet but it will actually start very soon...yes yes the pink slips have gone out but they are still working so cannot apply for benefits and do not know what a travesty this is.

I emailed the Gov's office yesterday and have not received a response from her or any of her staff.....another day lost on the phone not being able to get into que to talk to a human....this is really sucking....I like all of you need all of my money not what is left over from paying atm and bank fees for withdrawls from this citi bank card.

I finally got thru to the Unemployemnt office this afternoon....after over an hour on the phone it boiled down to the person I talked had no idea there was not a Citi Bank branch, affiliatein the state of Kansas.....it boils down to this.....you are supposed to be able to go into any bank with a Visa sign and empty the card for no fee....I did mine at Intrust....you can do this 1 time per week.
This was a very poorly thought out deal by the state....the contract should have been awarded to a Kansas bank so this would have never happened....the State should have also offered direct deposit to any one wanting or needing direct deposit for their weekly benefit check.
Everyone on unemployment needs to contact your congess person and senator and complain about this in a very load voice.

I received my card two weeks ago but today on the 9th of december they have not transferred the money into any of the accts per citibank said.Has anyone else not got paid today 12/09/08 on their debit card.

Uh, just a thought. How much time have you wasted trying to talk to the State when you know that everything they do gets screwed up? You should have seen this coming, got direct deposit started immediately, and forgot about debit cards that are too complicated for state employees to figure out,(Flipping hamburgers is too complicated for many of them.) Then you could be spending the time you wasted looking for a job. Never, never, never believe that anything the State comes up with is going to work seamlessly immediately. Always remember that those working in state government are there because they are unemployable in the private sector.

Unfortunately I already had a unemployment acct from years passed and wasn't givin another option of direct depostit or debit card. So here I sit nearly a month later with NO card. Supposedly it was mailed on the 3rd,todays the 9th we see. Friend of mind said it took his over a week. Just think......all our funds are being sent to a bank that is on the verge of collapse. Nice thought. "oh sorry, we had to freeze all the funds for bankruptcy proceedings."

This country is in serious trouble. Not all Bush's fault but a large part. Don't forget Clinton signed in nafta. It's all a game for the elite, our entire gov't needs to be vaporized IMO.

I work construction so me getting laid off is common every now and then and I have kept my bills to a point I can survive on this benefit thank god. HOWEVER....this looks to be the BIG ONE.

Here is a good way to help keep you from complaining about the unemployment checks.... GET A JOB.

I know this debit card thing sucks because the drug dealers do not take credit/debit cards

Before I get a bunch of replies to that last comment let me say, I am sorry that you are unemployed. I have been there also. My wife and I lived in the car and on friends living room floors for 2 months while our 2 children lived with their aunt. It sucked but you know what I did... I GOT A JOB. Half of what I made before... but I GOT A JOB.

It has been 44 days since I got fired and I checked the KS Unemployment site and it mentioned that my check had been mailed on the 14th, today is the 19th and still nothing from them. This is depressing as I have bills to pay and no money.
It really is a contradiction when you hear how great the USA is and that our systems are the best in the world and you know how full of crap it really is... I don't think their is one system in this country that is run properly without individual ideals and greed that don't come first.
We are a broken society.

Thanks for the info, guys. I was recently laid off and looking for my card. Ks Dept of Labor website says it's been mailed 5 days ago. Guess it takes a while. I wish everyone luck.

Anyone know on the length of time to get your UI CitiBank card after UI approval? Mine was on 01/02 and it's been over 2wks.
Have been getting wierd calls from someone saying they are with Kansas Unemployment Insurnace....I know this has to be a scam b/c the UI Call Center closes at 4pm & isn't open on weekends....they keep calling after 830pm and on sundays, can't report them b/c they call from an unknown #. Once I ask for name of supervisor I get hung up on!

Any advice is some advice....can't get the call center on the phone for 12 days now. thanks
