so i have a situation where the baby mamma is receiving welfare for a child because she claimed on the birth certificate there was no father, since the few she'd tested came up negative, but still gets money from the other man she's claimed is the father. now she's receiving welfare benefits and money from the supossive dad, that she claims doesnt exist. This is welfare fraud, correct?

<quoted text>You must not have been a good nurse. My wife is a nurse and she makes over 70,000. She could afford a very good life style on her own.
Well, everyone knows nurses make good money, and if she can't figure out how to give her kids a GOOD LIFE on that kinda coin, she must be snorting most of it. F*ck, I've never earned more than 25k a year, and I managed to raise two boys with some sense of moral compass and they're not out doing drugs or shooting people. I'd have been happy with $40k a year.$70k is a fortune. But it's not if your standards of living are so high, you can't imagine living in a ghetto or telling your kids NO, YOU CANT HAVE YOUR OWN CELLPHONE OR JORDAN AIRS. I said no to my kids a LOT, and that bothered us, but the end result is that no mental harm was done saying the word NO when everyone elses parents are able (somehow) to say YES. 70K is obscene money for a single parent. Trust me.

Welfare case workers are not lazy, just overworked. Yes, there are regualtions in place but there are not enough workers employed to check each case when needed or to even have the "one on one time" with recipients that is suggested to encourage them in their hunt for employment. Don't criticize the case workers but rather those who are holding off on hiring the number needed to meet the needs and requirments of our growing welfare nation.

All the inner city women who pop out a kid every calendar year should be jailed forever. That should free up some funds for the folks that just need a helping hand or a leg up to keep from losing their homes or some such.

Fully agree... Just saw a report on population growth. As expected, european and oriental americans are having less than 2 children on average or less than zero population growth. Number one reason is the cost of living, since most are working longer hours for less compensation, while prices continue to rise. Most african and hispanic americans are more than doubling their growth rates, opting to provide lower standards of living for their offspring along with requiring other americans to provide financial assistance to their families, thus increased taxes for welfare, healthcare, education, and of course increased police and fire services. By 2050, european americans will officially be considered the minorities, although due to the expected majority, the welfare systems as we know them, will go broke.

Not to mention, the cost of owning a home in Chicago, where the average property is valued at over 200% of actual worth. I still have family up there and the difference in Indy and Chicago is that we live...they get by...

I wish I could help. I also know a woman who is on Medicaid here in Illinois but got married to a man who makes plenty of money and has private insurance. They have decided it is ok to keep her on Medicaid and not add her name tohis insurance. This seems like fraud to me.

I am a single father i fight and work hard for my son & me, the state wont give me any help at all, i pay $900 for rent $142 go in food and travel to get to and from work and my son to school. i manage to survive with him but this is not about me, it's about a young lady i use to work with, she has 5 kids, the father ran off and she barely knew any of his real information, she found out after a long time he use an alias and lived a second life. now the state want to investigate her ect. HELLO 5 kids and she works ! why would you put a single mother through so much stress and pain. don't you think she's gone through enough, so i take her to her child support appointment, only to have her come out crying on how they kept accusing her of fraud, when she kept telling them yes it is hard to believe but it is true. I tell her no to worry shes fine, but she's so scared about them taking her 5 kids away from her its very sad. i heard how the worker spoke down to her and made her feel so bad. i think someone should monitor these workers, because i am pretty sure the families that they know or are related to benefit more then others . "I" A friend of a case worker once realized it is not what you know but who you know. in her words. sad to know the future of some kids rely on a person that doesn't even know them and can care less . I hope she can get some good help and that they would cut some of the SINGLE MOMS A break, THEY ARE RAISING THESE KIDS!
Some wont even do that ! To all case workers out there. remember WE ARE ALL HUMANS !
what if it was you ?

Anyone who has a child or get pregnant and cant afford the child is stupid..If you cant afford the child dont have the child..Married or not...Children are a handful and they cost money to raise them....and sometimes i feel women get pregnant on purpose just so they can be lazy and depend on goverment money...Quit depending on the goverment or the state to support your lazy butt...get off the couch and get a job and support your dam kid..and if you dont know this im happy to be the first one to tell you so...GET A JOB...the trouble you have is Lazyness...

That's a very rude thing to say to a woman who has a job and is looking for supplemental income help.$500 is high rent for some areas, but very low for others. Here in Philly, you are lucky to stay under $1000 to live in an apartment complex just outside of the dangerous areas. Indianapolis is the same way. I think that the welfare fraud most people are upset about is when a person falsifies information in order to receive funds. That would include lying about inability to work and falsifying information about children that live in the household as well as other incomes.

im a father of four children that i love and would do anything for. my wife has issues and cant work but has not gotten approved for disability at this time. i did it and worked 2 jobs for years to provide for my family the best i could. i asked my wife to go on welfare and never reported my income, i needed the extra help. well i just got caught and am facing years in prison, im sorry for what i did truly, but i feel i did what i had to do for my family. i never ate steaks and shrimp, i ran out of food stamps every month. so now my family has to go without me cuz i tried to be a father and take care of my family. am i a bad person?? im sorry you all dont understand. i did nothing maliciously, i swear, but im sorry what i did. i was not honest with welfare, because i needed the help they said i didnt qualify for, so i lied about my income and collected anyways, i did what i felt i had to do to provide for my family, if that makes me a criminal, then im guilty.

That comment was uncalled for. Sometimes Moms become single because of divorce, death or abandonment.

Okay? How judgemental. This woman could have become a single parent for a variety of reasons. What about people who were making more money than you single or married who are now laid off and need benefits. They have paid taxes. They deserve the benefit. And they will probably be wearing the same clothes, designer or otherwise that they had before their reduction in income. the agencies need to aggressively address their workers. In many cases acts of psychological abuse perpetrated by the so called trained workers who have studied how to interact with people socially goes unchecked. The agencies need to clean house of people who set the stage for abuse of the resources. They need to pay them a real paycheck so when they deal the public they are comfortable with themselves and therefore feel no need to dehumanize people as they apply for the benefits they are entitled to. and if its a problem EDuCAte! Its easy to sit back and not really empower people to be self sufficient. thats a great way to enforcce control. For years welfare has been used as a convenient way to ensure that certain social classes dont get a job. for all of the workers that are posting negative comments and all of the jugdemental types who have a job for the moment have you ever really thought in depth whats really going on with the welfare system. in many cases people who qualify for services are punished before a determinination is even considered. if the ignorance stopped on the inside then we would see a decrease in the nonsence as it relates to fraud cases. this is not to say that anyone who commits fraud shouldnt be punished, i'm saying use common sense and open your eyes to how the game is being played often at the expense of people who really dont deserve it. we need to be able to report anonomously workers who are rude, incompetent and lazy. and the agency needs to investigate the grand theft and personal injuries they inflict. if you have a job thats great however in these uncertain times you too might need something like disability, food, shelter etc. all it takes is one emergency to change your circumstances and make you think.

You dig up a year old thread to say welfare workers should be fired? Yeah. They are the problems in this scenario. Get serious.

I am serious. Some workers fail at performing the public service they are supposed to deliver. When that happens it becomes the source of other issues. I feel that agencies need to address the source of some of the problems and provide better training or make jobs available for those who are more competent. Here are a few examples. Workers dont always answer their phones or return phone calls in a reasonable time. Mail correspondence that is time sensitive has a deadline that only allows a person to provide information within 1 day. workers who are out on surgery who fail to change the voicemail to let a person know and meanwhile other agency workers are telling the person to continue to call a voicemail box that they know will not be answered for at least 1 month. and hey how about the child support enforcement agency taking lottery winnings to satisfy back child support and not bothering to check where the funds are going and instead giving the money to the wrong person and not correcting the issue. Their only explanation was we don't bother to check where the funds go. and how about people with just a nasty demeanor you say good morning they look at you with a snarl on their face. uh I didn't fill out the darn application to work at this place you did. don't take your frustrations out on me. lol!
Yea, some county workers leave much to be desired and some do indeed need to be fired. I think the big issue overall is customer service. the local hospital system in my area provides free medical care and insurance for those who qualify based on income . customer service is outstanding and patients are treated no differently whether they have insurance through 1 of the top insurance companies or if they qualify for the free benefit through the hospital. their customer service never changes.
thanks for responding even though the post was a year old. that was the purpose to post on the forum and see if somebody would respond as you did. thanks again.
