"u guys! i jus signed up for the navy! i got the job of a hospital corpsman! i dont know if thats a good job!"
well lets see, you will never pick up rank! their is to many of us. going with the marines is not optional, it is now a requierment for males, so you WILL be in iraq. I joined as a corpsman and not even 5 months later me and everyone in my corps school class were kicking sand and getting shot at by ragheads. If you want to do somthing smart, be a Nuke, IT, Crypto, not a corpsman, im sorry i joined as an HM

Hes right, i joined as a corpsman 3 years ago and have been to iraq twice and am now looking at a third deployment over. i never even wanted to go with the marines. every day you will put ur life at risk. try to get a C school if u do go corpsman, once you get 8404(fleet marine force) you will stay that way forever

The navy is the worst decision that anyone can make. About college money that was the only reason I joined. I can tell you this much that if they cut the gi bill there would have to have a draft. Dont cum in as enlisted. The bullshit is emmence. I have proudly served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I am a proud american but when I see Bullshit I through the flag. Just imagine someone taking your life away from u and tell u what u can and cant do. I have seen racism like everyday. So that another reason to get out.

Hotssuce..... Don't kid yourself, when a hospital corpsman gets out of the navy they have NO certificates or licenses that transfer over to the civilian world. When a corpsman gets out, none of his training is worth beans in the real world, you have to go to school all over again and get your licenses that way. A college will however give you credit for your navy training but these credit are only good toward elective classes. A Corpsman who wants to be a nurse in the civilian world will have to go to school just as long as the kid out of high school has to go to be a nurse. Its not like learning welding or something where you can just go to work when you get out. A hospital doesn't care what you did in the navy when it comes to medicine....the regulations by the state and fed gov. dictate that. Good luck.

I should have pulled out loans. Your last sentence was true, "people in the military live to work and civilians work to live."

Ive never been so disrespected or treated like less than a person in my life until i joined!!! What was I thinking?? Rank.....I respect it but you also need to deserve it and not abuse it.(khakis)

I have friends who went in either as enlisted or officers and said it was a great experience. You have to be willing to follow rules and protocol, but the benefits are great and job security can't be beat. Perhaps those of you who hate the Navy have never tried to hold a full time job on the outside? My last office job felt like an exercise in dehumanization. Enjoy the Navy while you can.

YOUR WRONG PETTY OFFICER. ITS NOT THE SAME AS THE CIVILIAN WORLD AND YOU KNOW THAT. IF MY BOSS(KHAKI)TRIES TO SLEEP WITH ME CAN I QUIT?? IF MY BOSS DECIDES TO HOLD A GRUDGE AND TREAT ME LIKE S*** ON PURPOSE CAN I QUIT?? I GUESS YOU MAY HAVE FORGOTTEN SINCE YOU WEAR TWO CHEVRONS NOW BUT I KNOW.....

<quoted text> Dude, what are you talking about? Did you ever actually try to get your degree in the Navy? 2 years in, I got an AS; I'm going on 8 years, and I'm nearing my Bachelor's. I ain't the biggest fan of everything the Navy powers-that-be do, but I raised my right hand & swore I would put up with it for the time being. Let me reiterate something that I've long held to...every job has it's pros & cons, every last one of 'em. Cops get paid alot of money, but get shot on the average of one every 36 minutes. Firemen are honored for their bravery, yet they have some of the highest levels of corruption among civil servants. Research your choice, and choose wisely, should you opt to enlist in any service. College money is there, despite what is said in this forum.

Actually, yes you can "quit". Maybe not in the traditional sense, but you can be reassigned, and you do have rights that include the right to file a grievance and not be treated any differently because of it. People will take advantage of you, whether in the military or otherwise, if they feel you're vulnerable and don't understand your rights. For the record, I wear three chevrons now, but even that doesn't mean that I still don't have my gripes with this job; difference is that I elect to effect change responsibly within my circle of influence vice complaining.

Seriously, what the hell is going on. First of all to all the Naval personnel who stood up for the fleet thank you. Secondly,***Good People Ignore This*** if you dirt bag little boot camp wash outs, west pack widows and emo goth cutter kids can't deal with military life it is at no fault of the service. Go cry somewhere but remember that some of us are here to make the Navy better. Personally if your are half the ass you seem to be then I am overwhelmed with joy that the Navy booted your ass out or didn't promote you or whatever the last half of you have been crying about. Suck it up and move on.

Why do you automatically think that if you don't like the Navy that someone is a washout? Maybe people who love the Navy are Dirtbags. Anyone who likes being bullied on a daily bases and love kissing ass to get promoted must be the dirtbag. Not the other way around. Idiot

FRESH MEAT !!..

Just joking. I would say run away from the military but if you have a good head on your shoulders and alot of time on your hands out of High School go for it. Just know that when you sign up for 4 years or whatever you contract is that you life is the gov't.

I do know you can go in as a 2 by skate. Which is a contract that you do 2 years active then 4 inactive. I would try to get this one so you only have to do 2 years active and see if you like it or not.

Navy divier is a good job to have just talk to your recruiter and go for it. I know they train out of San Diego. Dont go for the marines if your smart. If your good with school work go into the Navy. If your a dumass go for the marines.

Good Luck mate.

Wow. I actually read this thread from start to finish. There are two things to be learned here
1) In the navy you can actually sit down long enough to read over 1000 posts made by other sailors with nothing to do and
2) Only you can change your own personal situation

-In case anyone is wondering-I plan to get out in two years at the 10 year mark, after what I would consider a very successful time in. I made rate very quickly (AFTER going to mast as a junior sailor), was awarded many medals and other assorted BS, enjoyed the opportunity given to me on the Navy dime. I also realize that the Navy is not for me any longer. For those of you who do not want to stay in, get out. It is really not that hard to have yourself removed from the military. If you feel you are unable to accomplish this, then at least spend the remainder of your obligation learning something to assist you transition out of the Navy. Please, don't tell me that you don't have enough time to do anything other than work-VERY VERY rarely have I seen a sailor with no FREE time-you may just have to sacrifice a little (ironic considering our job isn't it)- PS-that's sarcasm - It is very easy to curse the darkness, but why not light a fucking candle and make yourself a better person instead of complaining and spreading the hate?
