S. Illinois counties seeing first of fracking rush

Full story: Lincoln Daily News

Blessed with natural resources but never enough jobs, southern Illinois counties have begun sampling the fruits of a land rush linked to a debated drilling practice that speculators believe can tap elusive oil and natural gas thousands of feet underground.

Thanks. It appears the rain has created delays.

I guess we will have to keep "watching" and "waiting".

They can't "Frack" until it becomes legal. Hopefully the state Legislature will pass the so called "Fracking bill" in the next few days.

It takes the legislature to long to do anything. You would think they were paid by the hour. It appears the weather is not cooperating any more than they are.

It will be a bad deal if the oil rig is all set up to drill horizontally and the legislature won't pass the Frack bill. Nothing surprises me about our state legislature.

I'm trying to watch the news for passage of the bill but it is difficult with me being out of state. I am hopeful that this forum will keep me posted on developments. Both in Springfield and Wayne county. I am very interested in Berry, Johnsonville and Orchardville areas. Specifically northwest of Crisp.

I hope you are correct giveitup. I'm just going by what the newspapers have been reporting and things said by the oil companies. The press has been saying the Legislature had to pass some bill or law? before Fracking could begin. Let's start Fracking. Let the Boom begin!!

Fracing is illegal? Someone better alert the folks at Fairfield Acid and Frac Company, who have been fracing every day since they opened in the 1980s. Educate yourselves people.

It is good to hear the Berry well is progressing. From what I read it seems there is no law against fracking, just no law permitting it. Springfield appears to have a majority in favor, supporting how fracking is to be monitored and permitted. Also it appears those up north want to profit from it. It may be that we would have been better off if Cook County had seceded from Illinois. My thoughts are that once Springfield finds a way to tax or charge for fracking permits the legislator will go back to their standard campaign contribution methods

This went a different direction than I thought it would. Exactly where is the Berry well? And where is the Johnsonville well?

About 3 weeks ago I as turkey hunting in that area. They were doing the dirt work in preparation for the derrick. Didn't get to see the actual derrick set up. Is it about the same size as the normal drilling rig or is there some unique feature about the derrick?
My Grandparents lived in that "neck of the woods". Geographically, the location is in an area called Round Prairie.

Thanks! Iím not in the area now but I will be down in about a month or so. I have found the location on a map and will have no problem finding it. All this is exciting. My grandparents and uncle also lived in the area. Did you get a turkey?

I just heard on WFIW (104.9 fm) that the house approved the fracking bill and it now move to the full house. Also they gave an interesting overview.

It's been about a month since Les Wilson's drilling rig set up on the Walt Townsend land near Round Prairie. Anything to report on it's progress??

I hear the fracking bill is now out of the House and into the Senate. Over 4.5" of rain doesn't help progress.

I am curious if they have began to curve into the area where the fracking will occur. It would be interesting to know the vertical depth and the horizontal length they are going for.
