We fortunately don't live in1958, even so that's opinions based on Dr. kings religious beliefs. That era also didn't recognize the effects of cigarette smoke and the lack of safety equipment in cars....."unbuckle the kids ma and light up a smoke, lets take the family for a ride to the all white dinner". That might be a pretty simplistic statement, but that was a pretty simplistic era, lines where drawn everywhere, your on that side, I'm on this side, even by those trying to achieve cival rights.

People need to stop living in the past, a world that just doesn't exist anymore.

Ah, and there it is!!! Gregory Kirschmann (ie kiMare) never disappoints with his cut and paste repetitions.
I simply note the first paragraph doesn't discuss marriage at all, and the second paragraph clearly states that marriage is not a requirement or even desired for many people engaging in mating behavior.
Poor KiMare is under the delusion that mating behaviors and marriage are the same thing!!! Actually it's probably less a delusion then it is an intentional attempt at deceitfulness since he's incapable of actually supporting his rambling bullshit!!! He attempts the same deceitfulness when he continually tries to pretend relationships and marriages are the same thing. He's a tool!!!

One can't speak for others, but take Dr. King and put him in todays world, he may or may not have responded the same way, when asked the same question. Even so it's his opinion, based on his beliefs.

Poor Scott.

Convinced that saying "it's not marriage" is proof that gay marriage is harmful.
Scott has bigger problems than gay marriage.

Hmmmm 1958, eh?
What did his WIFE say?
Coretta Scott King, speaking four days before the 30th anniversary of her husband’s assassination, said Tuesday the civil rights leader’s memory demanded a strong stand for gay and lesbian rights.“I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people and I should stick to the issue of racial justice,” she said.“But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said,‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’”“I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream to make room at the table of brother- and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people,” she said.– Reuters, March 31, 1998.
Doesn't matter what she says. She isn't a great historical figure being hijacked for evil doings.

Wow, apparently Scott’s been drinking all night and now is frustrated. Let’s look at his nonsense!!
Scott wrote:
1.It Is Not Marriage
Yes it is. The federal government recognizes it as such. The federal government trumps the opinion of religious zealots.
Scott wrote:
2.It Violates Natural Law
The definition of Natural Law presented by Scott is nonsense, and marriage is governed by the state, not Natural Law. Nature has already proven that we are part of the fabric of humanity, and marriage is a contract created for humans.
Scott wrote:
3.It Always Denies a Child Either a Father or a Mother

Heterosexuality doesn’t guarantee both a mother or father. And all peer reviewed studies have concluded that children raised by homosexual couples do just as well, if not better, then those raised by heterosexuals. You know that a bigot is completely unable to support their prejudices once they trot out “the children”. You will see over and over on these threads that fundies care very little about children overall, they are merely a pawn they try and trot out when all their other efforts have failed.
Scott wrote:
4. It Validates and Promotes the Homosexual Lifestyle
There’s no such thing as “the homosexual lifestyle”, this has already been covered.“Homosexual lifestyle” is nothing more than a fundie created talking point. They can’t pinpoint anything about our behavior that warrants their disapproval, so they just create one for us. In the end, their disapproval is irrelevant.
Scott wrote:
5. It Turns a Moral Wrong into a Civil Right
Homosexuality has no moral value. Again, this is just more fundie nonsense. What fundies deem moral is not what our country is founded upon, and our Constitution ensures that what the religious determine to be “moral” has no bearing on individual rights and liberties. Homosexuality has as much to do with morality as gravity or photosynthesis. It just is. Period. Only fundies try and apply a moral value to things out of their control.
Scott wrote:
6. It Does Not Create a Family but a Naturally Sterile Union
Marriage doesn’t have a sterility clause. There are no mandates that a married couple procreate.. And marriage creates a “family” the moment it is sealed. Legal spouses constitute a family.
Scott wrote:
7. It Defeats the State’s purpose of Benefiting Marriage
No, it doesn’t. The State has many reasons for Benefiting Marriage, and all of those reasons apply to gay married couples. It ensures the appropriate next of kin, and it provides the exact same protections to the children of gay couples. The very children, might I add, that were brought up in point 3 above. See what I mean about how the fundies don’t really care about ALL children, just the ones being raised by people they approve of. Hypocrites.

8. It Imposes Its Acceptance on All Society
Wrong on so many levels. I do like how Scott’s little cut and paste states “Christians and all people of good will” as if all Christians are of good will! Hilarious. What the fundies hate is that the public school system will be teaching about homosexuality in an appropriate and informative way based upon facts, and not their interpretation of their buybull. The public school system, and all state and federal programs will recognize homosexuals as EQUAL and NATURAL, which they are. As for acceptance, fundamentalists will continue to be able to withhold their acceptance. Just like all those fine Christians in that Christian organization known as the Ku Klux Klan do. There is no imposition being made on all of society. Fundies are more than able to teach hatred of gays in their homes, just like they are able to teach the ridiculous Genesis creation story in their homes.
Scott wrote:
9. It Is the Cutting Edge of the Sexual Revolution
The sexual revolution has already come and gone. And there is absolutely no correlation between gays being married and incest, pedophilia, and bestiality. This argument is hogwash, the Courts have already said so. This is nothing more than the fundie last ditch attempt at the “slippery slope”. It’s nonsense.
Scott wrote:
10. It Offends God
Your god is completely irrelevant in matters of social justice and equal rights. The Constitution trumps your god. It always will. It’s a shame you fundies are so un-American.

No, unfortunately she isn't but his niece Alveda is

"Dr. Alveda King is the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She agrees. Alveda has picked up her like-minded uncle’s civil rights mantle, dedicating her life, primarily, to achieving equality for pre-born children.

Still, in the years since his death, Alveda has poignantly articulated how, arguably, based upon his published position on homosexuality, Dr. King might feel about “LGBT” activists’ misappropriation of his Christian legacy for their counter-Christian purposes."

You have no idea how he would respond in todays world, he lived in a different era. He may or may not have had the same views, people are allowed to change, I'm not saying he woyld have. So is what you're saying is to do as all great historical figures (i.e. Abe Lincoln, George Washington, both religious men) have done? Or just certain ones? honest questions

if government doesn't matter then the laws in states that don't allow same sex cival unions/marriage don't matter. If government doesn't matter this whole topic is void and null, then anyone can do whatever they want. Of course government matters, the words in your bible are only the "law" for those with the same beliefs. As another religious poster stated before, the bible isn't based on truth but based on faith. So have that faith in your world, no where does it say to push that faith on to others.

The topic is " Illinois house approves same sex civil union", key word being "house" It says nothing about the bible approving it or not. I'm sure there's probably other threads addressing the religious side.

Alveda is a religious wing nut. She had three abortions and then decided she wished she hadn't, so that's her focus. She's an activist, but not a leader in any way.

I'll take the word of a real leader over Alveda. In the end, it doesn't matter, our equality is not resting on the opinions of a dead man.

Do you think capitalizing nonsense makes it somehow more relevant? You would be mistaken.

Government doesn't matter?!! LOL!!! The government is the very entity ensuring that you get to freely continue following your little cult. You might want to respect it a little more.
