farmer dusty wrote: Why are theese people so dependant on food stamps? As a farmer my costs have quadroupled in 3 years but my farm program payments have been cut in the 08 farm bill. I dont think food stamps should increase either. It might teach some of theese poor people to get out and earn enough money to support their selves. Food costs have increased 16% from what I've read feul has tripled in amatter of 4 years! Whitch is more important Food or Feul! Please don't blame the farmer we are just doing our job and finally getting a decent price for our commodities. No one that I have talked to blames the farmers. People with a slew of kids and a huge FS allotment know that they get more (at least in this state) every time they squirt another kid out. They say that isn't true, but it is. I am good friends with a caseworker, and I have seen in print, in their "manuals" that it is so. Not only that, only a total of 30% of the TOTAL caseload must be employed. This caseload includes the guy working and getting $10 a month. Like I stated earlier, what they need is told no more kids, or no money. New Jersey will pay for one kid. Thats it. Next kid? YOU pay the doctor bills, the hospital, the food after it's born, everything. Why can't every state do this? Easy. Then the politicians would never get re-elected.

I think what he's getting at is that Food Stamps come out of the Dept of Ag budget (about 75% of the budget is food welfare programs). People look at the USDA funding and think it is going to aid farmers, when it is actually used for big city socialism. Farmers only get about 11% of their bill's funding.

Bigpapa wrote: Don't forget we pay school taxes so thier kids can go to school for free. We pay school taxes so EVERYONE'S kids can go to school free. Public education allows anyone to move ahead, without regard to their income. If you could only attend school if you had the money, most of us would never have gotten there. I do agree, however, that what you can buy with foodstamps should be limited. Skip the snack foods and pop, candy, etc. Back in the day, food stamps had a stigma attached to them. Many people were embarrassed about using them, and as a result, they provided both a way of feeding your family and an incentive to get off them as soon as possible. Now, I see kids in the stores buying candy and snacks with their parent's Access card. These kids are seeing that money is plastic, and that there is an unending supply while their parents are not going to work to get it. No sacrifice, just more money on the card each month.

Poke Me wrote: <quoted text> Have you ever seen a Walmart greeter? They can sit on a stool if they have to and some of them barely look like their breathing. Maybe that's a job you can handle. Assembly work at a plastics place may work for your wife. I know a blind guy that puts little O-rings in plastic caps for the auto industry. There's a plastics place in Corry that lets you take boxes of parts home to assemble then bring back when finished. Paycheck every week. Maybe there's a place like that in Erie. Have you asked the Barber Center for some ideas on where to get jobs for handicap individuals. They place people all the time. we do not a any shops in our area that lets people do this work at home. YES i have tryed to do this kind of work but when you go to the hospital every 3 -4 months for a 3-4 day stay for heart @ breathing problems would you hire someome like that? but i thank you for your suggestions.

If so, you should not have them, because you have food stamps and are not working. Disability shmisability. As someone else said, there is plenty of work if you say you can't get around. Have you tried West? You sit all day, and get paid an excellent wage, with benefits. Get rid of the luxuries, and spend the extra money on food. we use the libary for their computers no cable NO cell phones yes i tryed west did not pass their test

But I think that some of the people lie about the vehicles, putting them in someone else's name to get things that they wouldn't get otherwise, cause one time when i applied for food stamps they told me that one of our 2 (1989 suburban that had over 200,000 miles on it was worth too much), the body on it was shot, they told me to sell it and the other car was a 87 Buick that had over 100,000 miles on it. They acted like they were worth so much, but we had to have some way to take our one son back and forth to the hospital and the father needed a car to go to work.

Why isn't what is in their carts my business? I paid for it. My tax dollars. I pay about 300 a week out of my check without being asked. I am forced to pay the food bill for the scum suckers. I have every right to know what they are buying.

No, what happens is that they don't tell the caseworkers they have vehicles. Many have Caddys in their own name. Or Escalades, or something else a working person could never afford. Check the parking lot at the welfare office sometime. All of those vehicles can't be in someone else's name. Not even the Denalis. And you, me, and the rest of the working population are paying for them. And we can't drive them. Nor would we want to the way they have them all stupid looking. But why should I be forced to pay the car payment, cellphone bill, food bill, and everything else they get just because they don't want a job?

And don't forget their name brand clothing that the rest of the taxpayers can't afford to wear. Their children dressed better than mine and myself. There should be a better way to check on their applications for assistance, it is one thing if you need help for a short time, but most of them on it for the whole life and then their children and children's kids for their whole life. most think that the america public should support them for their entire lives. Too bad we can't just quit paying taxes and there wouldn't be any money for them to get everything.
