Just a few weeks ago, it looked as though Illinois might become the thirteenth state to legalize same-sex marriage, but lawmakers failed to secure enough votes on a marriage bill that won't have another shot at a vote until the fall.

Illinois will join the equality club eventually; if not this year then next. The only other potential Midwest states would be Wisconsin, Michigan, & Ohio, but they've got constitutional amendments which would need to be overturned first.
We're looking at 20 states (max) by 2020, then back to the SCOTUS- hopefully a SCOTUS without Scalia and/or Kennedy.
