Parents of these special needs children should get a life. You gave birth to these children and you're totally responsible for them and STOP using the DOE as a scapegoat for your needs. Geezus, take time out and spend some time with your special needs kids in some educational activities or is it that you need to get away from them that much that you want them in school. Like 1-2 dys a month will make a difference in their educational development. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! and to the attorney representing these parents, get a life and stop trying to garner publicity for yourself in trying to win a humanitarian award. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

And still some blame the teachers for these furlough days. SHAME! The DOE/BOE picked the instructionsl days for furloughs, not the teachers, not the governor, not the union, not even the students.
Why don't we do this. Let all children enrolled in public schools vote (by secret ballot) as to whether or not they want those instructional days returned to the calendar. After all, it is their education, their future.

I thought the lib public teachers were just there for the children.

This shows that the greedy public teachers are just in the education racket for the money.

Special needs kids need special attention.

So instead of using their unpaid leave to go surfing or sit around and watch Oprah on tv the public teachers could donate their time and show up for work anyway.

Better yet, let them vote if we should have schools, period. And let them decide when they can drive, drink alcohol, get married, carry firearms, have plastic surgery, etc. In fact, let's let them decide everything. They don't need parental guidance, it's their future.

These parents of the disabled students demanded to be mainstreamed so they must take the cut like the 'regular' students. You cannot have it both ways. By mainstreaming your kids you caused many problems in the classrooms and now you are suing for your special concerns you said you did not have. So get over it. Stop causing the State so much $$$ and problems. Take care of your own kids.

You are stupid. We cannot show up for work, they will not let us on campus. We are not allowed to tutor our students either because that is called a conflict of interest. BTW, who's surfing? A lot of us already had second jobs, it's just another work day.-

Obama is always talking about the need for Americans to sacrifice and give something back to the community through volunteerism.

The lib public teachers could have come to work anyway for the sake of the children if they weren't such a bunch of hypocrits.

Well said satch7, these parents want it all. They want the teachers to take a pay cut, and furloughs and TO BE THERE WHEN THEIR CHILDREN are in school?? So where do the TEACHERS get the MONEY TO SURVIVE? They have lives too!! They have families and children in school also. WHY DID ALL OF YOU WAIT UNTIL NOW TO GRUMBLE ABOUT IT?? You KNEW this was going to happen for the past few months WHY DIDN'T YOU MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FORN YOUR CHILDREN?? KEY words here YOUR CHILDREN, STOP making the GOVERNMENT responsible for YOUR CHILDREN!!

Why sue the state? Just sue the BOE, DOE and HSTA. Get the source of the problem cured first.

Nice one! Would you be willing to donate 17 of your days off and work for your employer free? Didn't think so. Most of these teachers aren't making a whole lotta green and, with 17 more unpaid days, will be taking a 2nd job to support their family.

I'm not a member of a union that supports Obama.

The greedy lib public teachers should put their money where they're mouth is and practice what their Great Leader preaches.

If the public teachers donate those 17 days the children it doesn't take anything away from the other students.

But for the public teachers this isn't the children.

The educators didn't get paid and that is all they really care about.
