You know Linda Lingle has been the one shinging Governor we have had after years of jokers. I am glad that she is saying no to Ambercrombies idea to call up the Guard. This is not a crisis there are other carriers out there and like we need to adjust to the price of gas, shippers will need to adjust to a new marketplace.

Ambercrombie has always been a free wheeling idiot, so good for you Governor Linda, this cargo matter will find its resolve in the private sector.

I remember when Neil Abercrombie was just starting out in politics. I thought he was a pretty smart guy with some good ideas. Now he's morphed into just another politician willing to put forward any idea, no matter how stupid, just to get some press exposure and show people "he cares". Kind of sad really.

I agree Chris...I do remember a young Abercrombie and thought the same, now he's "sold out" and just a part of the machine.

Why do the libs, who normally detest the military, always want to call up the Guard for inane missions? They are not cargo haulers.
Expand the Supper Ferry routes to include Kauai and the Big Island. It could more than make up the missing cargo capacity on only one of its daily trips.

Abercrobie is full of shibai. This is not a case of emergency yet and he is over reacting as usual to draw attention to himself again... lol
Government getting involved in business is not a good thing. So how do you tariff the cargo on the helicopters? what do you charge? The Guard can't charge the public... and it will be taxpayer monies that will be used...AUWE!!!

Atta boy Amebercrombie. Get the military in there to get things done. No unions, no investors, no megabuck CEO's to hassle with and no local style workforce to deal with. You are credited for your concern. Better than all these space cadet critiquers anyways.

You go Jimmy! Tell it like it is. She'll order the Super Ferry to ship supplies to Kauai before she activates the Guard.

As Linda said, "At this time, there is no indication that any critical supplies are not being shipped and delivered in a timely manner,". I'll complete her statement: "But when that critical point arises, it will be too late and many people will have to suffer because of my boneheaded shortsightedness. Mahalo."

I like that "at this time" statement. As usual, it will come back and bite her in the a$$. Too little late, head in the sand, don't worry be happy.

NO WAY should the governor call them up. the legislators just passed a bill saying they don't want her to use her powers, especially for man made and long running issues...

well, what the hell do you think the problem with aloha was ? a man made (management) problem that took a long time to conclude with closure. they have been in bankruptcy for a while and have had problems for years right ? even in the final gasping breaths the union threatened a strike. HAHAHAHAHA (like telling a man that is gushing blood and dying that he is getting audited by the IRS, HIS victory is flipping off the agent as he dies.... as aloha did.)

then it seems to me this whole " economic disaster " falls exactly into the definition of what the legislatures say does NOT qualify for use of emergency powers.

a few weeks ago I wrote about this topic and debated a bunch of you (plural) and specifically made the comment about "unintended consequences." the typical "we hate he republican governor and its all George bushes fault" crowd wanted nothing to hear about that logic and only said the governor needs to be put in her place. Teach her a lesson.

you got what you asked for.
HAHAHAHAHA
GOOOOOOD !

Can you imagine him Governor.
Heaven help us! Neil, go back to DC and work for us...just once, please!

It bothers me when those who despise the military, what us to rush in when their personal needs are top of mind. The calvary is not coming this time Congressman. Gov. Lingle is right and, once again you've shown a lack of understanding. Your ideas fall on deaf hears time after time. Experts say the goods and services are moving around the state. Others were proactive and jumped in. They didn't sit on the sideline and just yell at the players.

What do you expect? its hawaii politics as usual, always looking for free hand outs from uncle Sam. Never giving Hawaii a chance to stand on their own two feet. We have become such a pork dependent state that we are just being push around on wheel chair by these guys in washington.

What will happen if they are gone? Who will supply the pork?

Ambercrombie is just trying to kick start his campaign for governor since their is no one to challenge Duke this next election.

He now owns the honolulu advertiser through the labor union.

He is one of the sacred cows who needs to be voted out of washington. I would say cut the hair and stay out of drugs. Hippies with long hair will always want their high.

Governor Lingle are you living in Molokai again?! You sure don't seem to be doing much of anything and have no clue what's going on in the State! Maybe you are too busy trying to buy your Turtle Bay retirement home...

I wouldn't want to see a Hurricane Katrina type situation happen in Hawaii. There needs to be a three pronged effort to stablize
1) the Empolyment issue
2) Transportation
3) The moral of the people living there. Because once people start losing hope.

The military is for fighting. They shoot, blow things up, and build fortifications. They aren't supposed to be used for cargo in a non-emergency. A true emergency is a situation like the Berlin Blockade where all land transport was forcefully blocked and the inhabitants would starve within the week. I think the fat accumulated on our bellies will get us through any temporary shortages.
