ALL GOODWILL STORES IN GEORGIA SUCK.
They abuse their employees by not paying them for overtime, overwork them and treat them like slaves, the managers conduct sexual harrassment on employees, they fire employees for no reason, their bathrooms are filthy, the stores are unorganized, this company needs to be investigated by the IRS, the EPA, and the Department of Labor in Georgia.

I was shit canned for nothing. Interrogated like a criminal...then fired. Had evidence to contradict their story and STILL didn't get unemployment from them. They are in cahoots with the state in most EVERY state.

The clothes are also riddled with scabies.

marketing@ging.com, employees complain that mgr. is running a sweat shop. One customer reported employees statements to corp. Yesterday, 61 yrs old, she doesn't drive, no way home, mgr. dumped her in the parking lot, 100 degree weather for 4 hours. Her ride could not pick her up any earlier. She is loved by many customers and GW employees. Visits and spends a lot of money, MON, WED and FRI. She is clean. She has NO ONE.

This lady is sweet. She did what her heart and soul told her to do. Goodwill, Cumming, Ga. has gone way down in the last months. Employees also, shared with me the "sweat shop" envionment. A huge heartless company. For FREE DONATED goods, they're out of sight on prices. Total rip off many times.
Can't believe corporate told mgr. to dump her out in the 100 degree temp. for 4 hours. She's 61 years old and sweet.

This person has PTSD. She gave her "all" to share her award winning "styling" experience with a company that knows nothing about merchandise "styling".
Also, she was "sad" employees sharing abuse and neglect experiences with her, she tried to pass the "horror" stories on to corp. Corporate, at the end, said they didn't want to know about the stories.
So Goodwill Industries trashed this wonderful and lovely lady. The manager escorted her out their doors, 100 degree weather, she told him her ride wouldn't arrive for 4 hours. He said he could care less. Cumming, Ga. Goodwill Store

It's the same in Kansas. Everything everyone here is saying rings a bell with me. I was fired, as so many people there are due to faulty policy on drawer accuracy. I worked in the store next to the corporate office and saw the sweatshop they ran in the warehouse with the disabled people they hired as part of their "mission work." I recently received unemployment benefits based on the finding that I was making a "good faith effort" to do my job, and that no misconduct was found. I got a stack of papers in the mail saying that Goodwill was appealing my unemployment, stating that they didn't believe I was making a good faith effort to do my job. I was a good worker. I gave excellent customer service. I knew my customers by name, and always counted back my change. I was the only full time cashier, and was left alone on the drawer frequently. If I made mistakes on the drawer I promise I don't remember making them. I was irritated any time I was even a penny off on my till at the end of the night. To think that someone who didn't work directly with me would come to the conclusion that I wasn't making a good faith effort is appealing and a slap in the face. I will fight this. They don't have anything to go off of as for me not making an effort to do my job right. They're willing to take away my grocery and gas money so they can save a couple bucks. GOODWILL OF KANSAS IS EVIL AT THE CORE. Their primary focus is not their mission statement. Their mission statement is another way to make money off the backs of the less fortunate and get cheap labor under the pretense that they're providing education and job experience for these disabled people. Do not donate to Goodwill. Do not shop at Goodwill (thought it's difficult for me, since a good deal on something I want is so hard for me to pass up), do not work for Goodwill. If you work there, you'll be sorry. I have so many more stories about how paranoid they are about liability suits and keeping up their squeaky clean image with the public, and how completely cheap and money hungry and greedy they are. Their policies ensure a high turnover rate.

I generally agree with everyone on here. Goodwill just prospers on the backs of those people with disablilities and poor kids from the inner city. The inner city school systems pay goodwill a few thousand dollars each kid to "babysit" them in goodwills school to work programs. The kids do menial jobs like fold thousands of bags used for pretzels and put them in a bigger bag for a few cents a bag, their paychecks are likee $20 biweekly. The clothes they can't sell in the stores are compressed into huge "bricks" of clothes that they send to third world countries, no not for free, but the country pays them millions for these clothes. The whole thing is just a raquet, they make money off of every concievable thing, even the plastic bags; they sell them to a company that makes engineered wood for decks and patios out of them. They don't offer most employees any benefits because they will keep you on part time at 37 hours max a week to get out of paying health benefits. They even recycle paper in a moronic way..if you have to put a file together they use old papers with things written on the back of them, so it looks really professional when you make a file and Joe Shmo's excel sheet from 2 months ago is on the back of it. I'm surprised an organization like this is still around exploiting people like this and twisting words like lawyers for the mission statement, because it's simply no true - I will never shop there ever! Plus I can get brand new clothes with coupons from Old Navy, Walmart, Kmart, TJ Max and a million other places besides wearing someones stinky ass underwear, hahaha

criminals ...their managers are on a commission basis, so they charge as much as they can to achieve max profits .. they use disabled people as a cover and pay them below minimum wage, whilst exploiting state funding for them, they abuse them and overwork them and fire them as they please and still the yuppies cue up to donate thinking their doing something good ! they need to be investigated and prosecuted and put out of business, but they get away with it because there very smart and very sneaky, next time you go into a goodwill store remember that ... they are as far from a charitable organization as you can get, total greed, indifference and deceit, no wonder were all screwed and our countries falling apart

I was just recently fired from Goodwill Industries in Coos Bay and I believe I was wrongfully termination because I was sick and the manager needed to cut hours because they were in Overtime. When I was originally hired my schedule was to work Sunday’s, Monday’s and Friday’s. I needed more hours so I asked my boss if he can give me another day but he said he didn’t have any more hours to give they were already in Overtime. I got to talking to one of my co-workers and she felt she needed less days and was willing to let me have her Thursday’s I spoke to my boss again and he finally gave it to me when she had left for a 2 week vacation. He had hired a volunteer elderly woman to cover for the 2 weeks the girl was out but they weren’t paying her so they weren’t in overtime anymore. I needed to ask for a Friday off so I put in a request for 1 Friday off. He took away all my Friday’s and I went from working 4 days back to where I started 3 days a week because apparently he hired two others and the girl who traded days with me was coming back to work and he had to give her hours.(So I know he was struggling with making schedules work for all the employees and his budget). I was a very good employee and worked for 3 months without calling in sick or being late! I was just up for my 90 day review and up for a raise, but they were delaying them for some odd reason.

On 9/12/10 I caught the flu and went to work as scheduled, they saw I was sick and I asked to go home and told them I may have to call in sick the next day depending on how I feel they said "ok just let us know and feel better." On 9/13/10 I called in sick because I was vomiting and had a fever and could not work. I eventually got better on my scheduled days off Tues and Wed, I went back to work on my scheduled day of Thursday on 9/16/10. That day a coworker asked me to help her move on 9/17/10 I agreed to help her, it was raining that day and have just gotten over the flu I was still susceptible to getting sick but I thought I was fine. The next day after that on 9/18/10 I ran the 10k Prefontain Memorial Run in the pouring Rain. I was fine after the race and went to work the next day on my scheduled shift 9/19/10. I was around an employee who had been sick for a month coughing and never had gotten medical attention for her own illness. I caught it from her she must have had strep throat because the very next day on 9/20/10 I had a bad soar throat and felt sick once again but I still went to work as scheduled that Monday the 21st. On Tuesday 9/22/10 I developed an extreme sever soar throat and had trouble breathing and eating, I started vomiting and had a fever again. I took responsibility and tried to get into the low-income clinic "Waterfall Clinic" in North Bend Oregon but they said they didn't have any openings and would have the nurse call me if they could squeeze me in. They never called and my two days off had passed I called them on Thursday 9/23/10 the day I was scheduled to go back to work and got an appointment for Monday the 27, but I knew it was strep throat and work wouldn't want me to be in there contagious so I called in several hours before my scheduled shift so they'd have plenty of time to get coverage, and I told them I have an appointment on Monday the 27th. I explained to them I couldn't get in any sooner because they were booked and had no openings, I couldn't go to the North Bend Medical Clinic or the Walk-in Clinic because I have no Insurance, my job worked me just enough hours that I didn't qualify for any insurance also I couldn't go to the ER because I can't afford anymore bills. Little did I know that day the corporate office made the decision to fire me because of excessive absenteeism. They knew I was sick and they knew I was going to go to the DR and get on antibiotics but they fired me before I could get into a DR to get an Dr release to prove I was sick and needed to be off until I got better. My Job has an Attendance and Punctuality Policy.
According to my Job’s policy I followed it correctly! While I was sick and could not make it to work I called them prior to my scheduled shift. I made an appointment to see a Dr and get a release to return to work.
Where in what I did gives them the right to fire me?

The way I see it is this!:
1. The manager had hired too many employees and he was stretching is budget thin.
2. He had to find a way to cover his shifts but not go over his budget.

What did he decide to do from what I see?
1. He hired a non-paid volunteer to work the hours he needed to keep business going.
2. He saw one of his employees requested a Friday off and decided to give that employee them off permanently.
3. Make up a reason to fire someone for had mistakenly hired to may workers.

So then what was his decision?
1. Humm... There seems to be an employee who has missed some days she has some excessive absenteeism. I’ll fire her because of that even though she has been a reliable employee and was always on time, and even has been willing to come in when others were sick and we called her to cover!

The reason I say this as a Wrongful Termination
1. The employee (Myself) had abided by the Attendance and Punctuality Policy by following all the procedures of which are

“If you are going to be late or absent, you must call in and notify your supervisor as soon as possible prior to the beginning of your scheduled shift, and no later than the start of your scheduled shift.”

“Goodwill Industries may require you to supply certification of the condition necessitating your abstance. Before returning to work you may be required to present certification from a health care provider that you are fit to return to work, or of any restrictions on your ability to safely perform the essential functions of your job.“

Should I seek a lawyer and take legal action against my former employer?

Hostile work environment. My first day, the manager who hired me was fired. No orientation until after 2 weeks, no name tags etc. We were supposed to call each other "hey you".

Oh full time means 37.5 hours at the most, and shift leaders will try to shave that down so you get paid less. You get 1/2 hour for lunch, so if you're tired from being on your feet all day, tough. Your lunch hour might be 2 hours after you arrive at work.

And you don't get a break every 4 hours, like you would in a normal job.

In my first week was exposed to a "team leader" describing another employee as a fu#$ing Bit#%. Yep that was management.

This same team leader would have us clock out 15 minutes before our scheduled time, and order us not to leave until she finished locking up. So we cooled our heels for 15 minutes, locked in the store. The one team leader who treated me kindly was herself abused. She said she used to love the job but now felt that she could do nothing right.

The training consisted of being placed with another cashier who had seniority, she'd been there 3 months. Thats long for this store. Cashiers were ordered to answer the phone while running the register and yes, we were to do customer's returns at the same register. Chaos. All this in the first week.

The asst mgr & most team leaders were in a click and were abusive to anyone not in that click. Their method of communication - shout, be sarcastic, be hateful.

If you ask a question, you get yelled out.
I even witnessed an asst mgr SHOUT at a customer. I was so embarassed.

Goodwill wants new merchandise pushed out to the floor every 15 minutes.

I believe they also want employees pushed out as soon as possible. Especially nice, bright or personable folks who would normally be promoted elsewhere.

Most of the team leaders or management were un professional, to be fair, probably no one had ever tought them how to be professional.

An abusive, hostile, shameful place. I hope someone goes in there undercover and exposes the truth about Goodwill.

Worst place ever to work at. Anywhere would be better. I won't shop there and will donate my used cloths and stuff to Salvation Army or some other truly decent organization.

Goodwill in Illinois is the same way. They mark something that is brandnew with the tag on it not even half off. I've been there for 2 years (wonder how I made it that long) and have seen maybe 30 people come and go (being fired or quit) it is an unstable job, the customers love the employees but all the good happy employees are being fired. They bosses do have a 'click' but they backstab each other and fire each other. I've gone through 4 bosses. My first one was transferred after fracturing her wrist and then FIRED for a wrong model stock count. They were just trying to find an accuse and ended up putting themselves in ruin. She was the best boss. All my other bosses stay in the offices and get on facebook while we handle everything. Today about 6 people were fired for having pictures on facebook while on the job. Well in our store we have a newspaper clipping of Goodwill on the front page with 2 boys dressed up silly having fun. They didn't get fired. So why was it wrong to have pictures on facebook? Whats the difference between the newspaper right in the community and facebook when people all around the world who don't care about Illinois Goodwill will see it.
Goodwill is very bad to their employees, and they're only dirty greedy heartless people hiding behind a good name. Which unfortunalty is now corrupt.
